Sr Validation Engineer

Job Description
Electrical and System Validation teams are critical to Renesas Electronics. Validation engineers interface directly with the engineering team to find unique and novel test solutions for our products. Validation engineers play a critical role in working with the applications team to shape the final device datasheet through characterization and product evaluation. This position will require managing interface with multiple labs as well as ensuring the associated lab equipment is properly maintained and calibrated.
As a Validation Engineers, we are involved with the entire new product introduction process from feasibility, design for test, hardware design, device debug, characterization, and long-term support of production. It is our job to ensure that each device shipped meets Renesas high quality standards. As Validation engineers we also work constantly to identify areas to maximize efficiency, yield, and test cost reduction.
Responsibilities:

• Managing the facilities and support for a team of Validation Engineer(s), contractor(s), and intern(s) executing test development projects, preparing customer samples, and supporting production needs with high quality and on time.
• Coordinating and seamlessly working between different geographical regions.
• Ability to multi-task and co-ordinate within a multi-discipline organization.
• Support Integrated Circuit (IC) Production, Test Development, New Product Introduction ramps, and Maintenance.
• Support Design verification and silicon characterization in co-operation with Design team and Product Engineering.
• Robust processes for scheduling, test processes, correlation with outside test labs, etc.
• Lab availability to accommodate Renesas engineering teams for engineering development.
• Continuous improvement and implementing lessons learned.
• Development and utilization of KPIs covering most important areas for lab performance.
• Procures equipment to expand capacity and capabilities based on sound business case analyses.
• Plans and budgets for groups (e.g., Lab facility equipment, outside services, and for Customer Specifications subscriptions).
• Assesses capabilities of outside test labs and selects labs for potential outsourcing based on internal test lab constraints, maximizing utilization and minimizing outsourcing.
• Manages customer and internal technical specifications, lab procedures, requirements, test specifications, and methods ensuring lab is compliant with current requirements.
• Supports engineering with root cause non-conformances determinations.
• Monitor lab infrastructure (power, compressed dry air, network, chillers), work with Facilities and IT teams on any issues.
• Hardware rework, SMT soldering, and debug assistance and probing per lab user needs.
• Coordinate with external vendors to maintain and repair lab equipment and facilities.
• Arrange and maintain equipment calibration plans, schedules, and service contracts.
• Coordinate shipments of samples and equipment among Renesas sites per project plans and debug needs
• Evaluate new equipment offerings, arrange demos, and work with lab users to obtain feedback.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related STEM field.
• 8+ years of experience.
• 3+ years of experience managing a team and test lab.
• Strong understanding of Quality standards such as ISO 17025 or ISO 9001.
• In-depth knowledge of industry test for Electrical and System Validation of Post-Silicon activities on IC development.
• Being able to set-up, program, conduct and monitor dynamic and climatic tests is a plus.
• Strong understanding of tooling/fixturing and related mounting techniques.
• Competent in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, database programs, data acquisition programs, measuring instruments or comparable.
• Efficient in problem solving and root cause analysis as well as hands-on debugging skills.
• Experience in programming languages such as C, C++, Perl, Python, etc.
• Experience in testing and collecting data from integrated circuits using standard tools such as Oscilloscopes, Multimeters, Spectrum Analyzers, etc.
• Hands-on experience in debugging analog products with serial bus interfaces and DDR memory systems is a plus.
• Experience with test hardware and test program development.
