Job description

Sr Tax Withholding Specialist – PP Trust is responsible for preparing, reviewing, processing and remitting taxes for the Pacific Premier Trust division of the Bank. Coordinates tax filing activities with internal and external parties. Assists with inquiries and responses to Federal, state, and local tax agencies. This is a divisional role, with focus on operational tax duties. This role requires an extensive function knowledge of the department and related areas. Acts as the subject matter expert outside the department. Leads projects and/or business teams or provides key technical expertise. Provides mentorship and leadership to less senior members of the department as required.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Independently manages an account load requiring preparation, review of transactions, review of trust documents and processing of Forms 1099, 5498 and 990-T.
  • Knowledgeable of escheatment rules and processing.
  • Responsible for verification and approval of daily Federal and state withholding and quarterly filings
  • Responsible for departmental reconciliation of ‘breaks’ identified by Treasury/Finance
  • Reviews outsourced tax vendor reporting and related work product for accuracy.
  • Works with vendors to resolve issues and provides guidance on work processes.
  • Identifies and addresses compliance issues from a tax reporting perspective. Issues can come from Compliance, taxing jurisdictions or vendors.
  • Applies subject matter expertise and judgment in researching and decision-makingconcerning routine to moderately complex issues. May escalate very complex issues to Tax Director and/or Trust Compliance Officer, and makes recommendations regarding resolution.
  • Acts as a liaison for PPT with Internal Revenue Service, state tax jurisdictions and local taxing agencies.
  • Researches as needed and explains issues and resolves quickly with the taxing authority.
  • Makes recommendations on resolving complex issues.
  • Responds to inquiries from audit, examiners, and tax authorities.
  • Develops and implements processes and quality controls for issues of high concern.
  • Educates and communicates to all associates affected by the new control item.
  • Handles almost all issues and if a complex issue needs escalation recommends next steps and resolution.
  • Partners with external tax professionals for preparation and filing of PPT-related Federal and state returns for Forms 990-T.
  • Responsible for managing vendor relationships. Involves ensuring milestones are met, collaborating closely with vendor and directing work processes, and reviewing work product for accuracy and completion as needed. 
  • Participates in the vendor RFP and selection process by providing input and recommendations based on subject matter expertise.
  • Responsible for adherence to the Bank’s compliance programs, including but not limited to, completion of all required and assigned training modules by established due dates.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years related experience in the Trust/Wealth Management industry preferred 
  • Experience with 1099 R 5498 and 990-T escheatment 1099 b div and int preferred

A reasonable, good faith estimate of the minimum and maximum base salary or pay for this position is $68,292.40 to $102,438.60.
