Job description

Located in Northern California, the team at Joby Aviation is driven by our goal of creating an affordable, all-electric air transportation system. Imagine a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly carries you and your fellow passengers over the congested city streets below, enabling you to spend more time with the people and places that matter most. Since 2009, our team has worked steadily to make this dream a reality. Weve designed and tested many generations of prototype aircraft capable of serving in a network of electric air taxis. Were looking for talented, committed individuals to join our team as we push onwards toward certifying the Joby aircraft with the Federal Aviation Administration, scaling our manufacturing, and preparing to launch commercial service in 2025.

For this role you will be joining the Systems Test team at Joby, to focus on Integrated Systems Testing in the Integrated Test Lab (ITL).  The ITL is Joby’s most complex System Test asset.  Its primary purpose is to ensure aircraft safety by evaluating systems behavior in realistic simulated flight conditions.  You will be leading the testing of Joby’s aircraft systems on the ground in a purpose-built lab.  All of Joby’s custom-built flight-worthy hardware and software for its revolutionary fully electric aircraft is put through the gauntlet of tests that include flight mission profiles of normal and abnormal operations.  Certification is the final goal.

  • System Test: execute tests with the team for integration of software, hardware and specialized test equipment to test mission profiles, emergency situations and de-risking tests to ensure product safety and verification of system requirements.
  • Integrated Test Lab continued integration: work with the System Test team, designers, EWIS to continue to develop additional features and special test equipment.
  • Configuration Control/Documentation: responsible for hardware and software configuration control. Help to develop formal test procedures, instrumentation guidelines, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and manage test campaigns.
  • Certification: work closely with DERs, systems engineers, System Test engineers, flight test engineers and regulatory authorities to define and execute verification tests in compliance with certification requirements.
  • Shift Operations and team coordination: manage two-shift operation, ensuring multifunctional team of test engineers, systems engineers, software engineers, technicians, flight test, design IPTs and Subject matter experts are aligned and executing test to meet company goals.
