SCOPE OF WORK:
Under the direction of the Manager of the Press and Tool Room Value Stream area, this position will lead and Supervise all functions and activities of the Tool Room and Plant Maintenance. This position will partner with key plant and corporate stakeholders to implement and drive best practices in safety, maintenance, reliability, environmental, and technology by applying Lean Manufacturing tools and best practices to drive continuous improvement and overall equipment effectiveness. Tool Room responsibilities include training teammates as Tool & Die Makers as well as providing the day to day operational oversight of our experienced Tool & Die Making team. Maintenance responsibilities include leading and managing all activities and functions of the plant's Maintenance including interfacing with maintenance staff in trouble shooting equipment; and facility problems. The ideal candidate will be dependable, have hands on experience of transfer/progressive dies, know how to foster a safe and efficient work environment and possess a positive, team player mindset.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Supervise the day to day operations of the Tool and Die Area as well as the Plant maintenance. Direct supervision of Technicians, Mechanics, Machinists, Maintenance workers, Tool & Die Makers, and development of Apprentices.
• Champion safety efforts in areas of responsibility and ensures that all teammates are trained in, understand, and practice safe work habits.
• Lead efforts to maintain physical structure of fixtures, equipment, molds and tools.
• Champion the implementation of Lean activities to eliminate waste opportunities of key processes including maintaining the 5S program in the tool room to ensure the department is in compliance with company standards
• Work with production planning to maximize service levels while maintaining production productivity goals
• Supervise the routine cleaning, organizing and housekeeping of the Tool and Die area and die storage area.
• Troubleshoot machine controls, use standard machine tools such as lathes, saws, mills and drill presses plus any other as required.
• Develop SOP’s for the Tool and Die Department
• Support priorities on shared resources to achieve the business needs and prepare and deliver on daily KPI reports to plant leadership for team performance.
• Communicate with vendors, order steel and enter orders.
• Responsible for all tooling, tooling components, machining supplies and the safe effective operation of the tool room itself
JOB COMPLEXITY:
• Work closely between safety and operations to ensure timely efforts are made to support daily plant needs. Align programs and resources to increase reliability and production efficiencies, while maintaining a safe, engaged maintenance workforce.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve maintenance response and ensure all equipment and grounds are maintained appropriately to meet plant and production needs.
• Must build and leverage positive, cross-functional relationships to address identified gaps and implement best practices. Must be able to lead change initiatives by developing and implementing effective communication and training programs to move the organization towards acceptance and ownership of key initiatives.
• Must align maintenance, reliability, and technology initiatives with the plant's overall objectives surrounding safety, people, quality, delivery and cost.
• Must be able to simultaneously prioritize and execute multiple projects all of which may in different stages of development or implementation.
• Participate on plant staff, steering committees, and various teams to drive strategic direction and key initiatives.
• Work with engineers, legal representatives, and environmental consultants to ensure environmental compliance.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Either an Associate’s Degree in Engineering, Metal Fabrication or Machining, an advanced education from a related Trade program or a combination of commensurate experience and advanced training
• 3+ years’ experience working in a manufacturing environment is required with at least 1 year of experience in metal stampings, tool room and or transfer/progressive die experience preferred
• A desire to lead with an ability to supervise in a team-based environment
• Strong interpersonal skills and leadership abilities; promotes engagement & diversity
• Proficiency in Windows-based software applications (Word, Excel, Access) and ERP systems
• Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to communicate at any organizational level
• Effective abilities in organizing and deductive thinking

• Comprehensive working knowledge of project management, writing capital projects, and general engineering.
• Good math skills and mechanical ability
• Solid understanding of basic electrical series circuitry
• Hydraulic and pneumatic understanding regarding the pressure, force and area relationships
• Ability to learn the process for repairing molds quickly
