Role
The Senior RF Engineer at Crown Castle is a leadership role responsible for guiding the RF Engineering team in assessing requirements, proposing practical solutions, and overseeing PROW and Venue activities for Cellular applications. Effective communication, technical expertise, and project management are essential in this position.
Responsibilities
- Project Leadership:
- Lead the RF Engineering team in assessing network engineering requirements.
- Provide detailed and accurate proposal documentation for opportunities.
- Manage budgeted RF task goals, including technical, financial, and duration targets.
- Troubleshoot Operations trouble tickets and lead resolution efforts.
- System Design and Optimization:
- Design indoor and outdoor systems to achieve coverage objectives using planning tools.
- Plan, coordinate, and conduct network testing, including CW, Benchmark, Commissioning, Integration, and Optimization.
- Tune propagation models using empirical data.
- Oversee system optimization for multi-node indoor and outdoor systems.
- Collaborate with customers to refine system designs and optimize performance.
- Technical Expertise:
- Utilize various measurements and test equipment, such as power density meters, spectrum analyzers, pilot scanners, and fiber testing, to validate system designs.
- Mentor and train junior engineers to enhance their technical skills.
- Manage vendors and contractors to ensure project success.
- Strategic Alignment:
- Apply RF Engineering experience to assess administrative items, contracts, and RFQ/RFI responses to align with company strategy.
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of RF Engineering elements and technologies.
- Leverage hands-on knowledge of RF tools, considering their range and limitations.
- Manage multiple projects (in different phases) across multiple states simultaneously.
Education/Certifications:
- Minimum of a BSEE (Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering)
- MSEE (Master of Science in Electrical Engineering) preferred.
- iBwave Level 3 Certification
- DAS OEM Certifications
Experience/Minimum Requirements:
- 7+ years of RF engineering experience.
- 2+ years of RF leadership experience.
- Expertise in RAN and DAS OEMs.
- Proficiency in Wireless Technologies (5G NR, 4G LTE, Legacy CDMA/UMTS required). Experience with Public Safety deployment is a plus.
- Proficiency in prediction and Mapping tools (Atoll, iBwave, MapInfo, Windcatcher).
- Expertise in DAS design, 5-Step Commissioning, and optimization.
- Proficiency with PIM/Sweep test gear and troubleshooting.
- Ability to assess administrative items, contracts, and RFQ/RFI responses for strategic alignment.
- Strong understanding of RF Engineering elements and technologies.

Working Conditions: This role falls into our hybrid work model working in the office on Monday through Thursday. On Fridays, teammates on the hybrid schedule will have the option to work from the office or home. There is an expectation of collaboration with teammates and stakeholders for moments that matter that could require travel.
