As a company, we constantly challenge what's possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.
Role Summary
The responsibility of this position is to integrate and maintain Rivian electric drive Propulsion System model to support Propulsion System Simulation and Optimization. This candidate will engage with integrating Propulsion System component models with the overall goal of running System Simulation and support Propulsion System optimization. This candidate will engage with the development of vehicle dynamic model to interface with the Propulsion System model. Additionally, this candidate will engage with the development of new tools and methods to facilitate overall drive system model development and enhance model accuracy.
Responsibilities
  • Integrate and maintain electric vehicle Propulsion System component models, motor, inverter, battery pack, gear box etc., to simulate vehicle performance and energy efficiency over predefined drive cycles.
  • Integrate and maintain vehicle dynamic model.
  • Work closely with vehicle simulation team to incorporate durability cycles for System Simulation.
  • Perform model validation using system and component level test data. Define tests to facilitate model correlation.
  • Work closely with the mechanical design and CAE team to incorporate thermal, structural, and NVH into system model for performance Simulation and to support design optimization.
  • Work with different cross functional teams in support of developing drive system component models.
  • Support execution of drive system models in windows platform as well as in Linux with parallel computation in high performance computing (HPC) cluster or in cloud.
  • Develop and support C/C++ or python-based scripting for job submission and execution in computing clusters or in cloud.
  • Develop new tools and methods to facilitate and enhance System Simulation and Optimization.
  • Ensure timely completion of project deliverables.
  • Support both internal and R&D efforts.
  • Travel as required, both domestic and international.

Qualifications
  • Minimum master's degree with 5+ years or PhD with 2+ years of experience in electrical or mechanical engineering related to developing drive system component models and Optimization techniques.
  • Strong programing skills in Matlab/Simulink, Matlab GUI, C/C++, and Python.
  • Strong knowledge of running drive System Simulation in Matlab/Simulink, Amesim etc.
  • Strong knowledge of fundamental physics, geometry, and general engineering principles.
  • Working knowledge in electromagnetic FEA software such as Maxwell, JMAG etc.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical FEA software such as Abaqus, Ansys Mechanical and knowledge of Pre- and Post-Processors, such as Hypermesh/Hyperview.
  • Experience of 1D simulation platforms such as CarMaker, Car Sim and Car Real Time advantageous
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Good understanding of engineering theory and principles of electric drive system components.
