Job Summary
The Onshore Geoscience team is seeking a highly qualified and motivated individual for the position of Sr Petrophysicist. The successful candidate will primarily support the Murphy Eagleford, Montney and Duvernay Onshore assets and serve as back up for GOM Petrophysical Operations and New Ventures evaluations. Murphy is seeking a candidate who excels in petrophysical evaluation of unconventional reservoirs and can seamlessly transition to assessing Darcy rocks independently. They must also be capable of identifying the differences and commonalities on petrophysical data acquisition programs for unconventional and conventional reservoirs.
The Sr Petrophysicist will be collaborative, detail -oriented and self-motivated individual with a strong work ethic. The candidate should embrace challenges, stay abreast of new techniques and workflows, and be a continuous learner. Additionally, they should actively share knowledge, mentor, and guide peers in the holistic evaluation of reservoirs by integrating petrophysical data with engineering insights form drilling, reservoir, or completions.
The Sr Petrophysicist will work in our Houston Corporate office and may work two (2) days a week remote.
Responsibilities
Formation evaluation and development of petrophysical models for a variety of reservoirs types (tight sands, shale oil, carbonates, conventional sandstone reservoirs)
Work with multidisciplinary teams on reservoir characterization projects
Data collection activities include planning and execution of formation evaluation programs and procedures for coring, wireline logging, data quality control, computer processing, and data management
Integration/calibration of core and wireline log data to provide volumetric determination, lithological determination, and mechanical rock properties for horizontal well targeting and 'frac' height estimation
Actively participate in a multi-disciplinary team that undertakes subsurface technical evaluations to resolve potential in our unconventional Murphy Onshore Assets
Maintain and update the EFS, Montney and Duvernay petrophysical models, integrating and reconciling existing and future data from all subsurface disciplines
Custodian & manager of the Murphy Onshore log and core database
Liaise with core analysis, coring and wireline/LWD companies and in-house experts, to verify operational procedures are being executed with high standards of quality and best practices and are completed on time and within budget
Display strong organizational and communication skills, making evaluations, interpretations, and assessments available for integration by all Asset and Reservoir Characterization team members
Champion petrophysical knowledge sharing / mentorship across the onshore subsurface organization
Provide operational petrophysical support to wells drilling within areas of responsibility
Undertake petrophysical regional studies to support exploration and development teams in their efforts to evaluate new basins/plays and improve reservoir characterization of strategic assets
Keep up with current and leading logging (wireline and LWD) technologies and recommend their applications where appropriate
Qualifications/Requirements
Bachelor’s degree is required in a related field of study such as geology, physics, petroleum engineering or geological engineering
Minimum 11 years’ experience performing petrophysical analysis on unconventional resource plays and proven experience on petrophysical evaluation of GOM projects or other conventional assets
Recent and broad experience with evaluation of unconventional reservoirs
Proficient user of Geolog, Techlog, Interactive Petrophysics, or equivalent petrophysical interpretation software package(s)
Strong integration skills with other subsurface disciplines and subject areas
Well Operations experience, wireline, coring, LWD and mudlogging.
Desired/Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree is required in a related field of study such as geology, physics, petroleum engineering or geological engineering
Minimum 9 years’ experience performing petrophysical analysis on unconventional resource plays and proven experience on petrophysical evaluation of GOM projects or other conventional assets
Knowledge of geomechanics, pore pressure, and fracture gradient principles
Evaluation of clastic, conventional reservoirs
Knowledge of rock physics
GOM / New Ventures experience
