**This position is a hybrid opening. You will be onsite 80% of the time and remote 20% of the time.***

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

The Sr Mgr Qualification & Testing is accountable for the execution of rail equipment testing plans including new equipment qualification testing, modified equipment testing, and PTC field testing. In addition, the position will work with all departments to ensure the qualification of crews is completed for the introduction of new or modified equipment.  

 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide leadership and management of Designated Supervisor of Locomotive Engineers, other field supervision, and T&E crews performing equipment qualification testing.
  • Collaborate with Transportation, Engineering Services, and Mechanical in the development of equipment testing plans.
  • Responsible to coordinate execution of test plans across departments and host railroads to ensure testing objectives are accomplished.
  • Work with the PTC and Safety teams to coordinate PTC field testing as required.
  • Coordinate test plans with Amtrak movement offices or host railroads where applicable.
  • Manage and monitor employee record keeping, efficiency testing and compliance with all Amtrak, Federal and state operating requirements. 
  • Manage staff of field employees to ensure new equipment training programs are delivered to T&E employees.  
  • Collaborate with the Training Department for the development of curriculum for the introduction of new rail equipment.
  • Work with Operating Practices and the System General Road Foreman Office for updated rules and procedures for the introduction of new equipment into the fleet.
  • Enforce and manage the rules and regulations for Amtrak policies and operating practices.
  • Effectively contributes to a safe and secure work environment for employees and travel experience for customers. Demonstrates necessary leadership to support a zero incident and injury culture within the Operations organization and Amtrak. 

 


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required OR equivalent combination of training, education and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience, leading, and managing others with different levels of expertise, exhibiting innovative leadership and management skills. 
  • Demonstrated experience communication orally and in writing within and outside of the organization. 
  • Demonstrated experience working on multi-departmental or multi-organization projects.
  • Must possess a working knowledge of applicable CFR 49 requirements and applicable Amtrak labor agreements pertaining to T&E employees. 
  • Significant experience with train and engine operations including knowledge and familiarity with commuter and freight operations. 
  • Knowledge of relevant operating procedures (i.e. Operating Rules, AMT-2, AMT-3, PTC systems).
  • Ability to travel.
  • Ability to work irregular hours based on testing needs (nights, weekends, etc.)
     

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current or past Locomotive Engineer or Conductor Certification
  • 9-12 years of relevant experience preferred
  • Current or past qualification on the physical characteristics of a segment of Amtrak’s network.
  • Demonstrated experience with train operations, train handling.
     

 

COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all corporate levels.
  • Ability to independently prepare reports/presentations for Senior and Executive management

The salary/hourly range is $135,800 - $176,040. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation. In accordance with DOT regulations (49 CFR § 40.25), Amtrak is required to obtain prior drug and alcohol testing records for applicants/employees intending to perform safety-sensitive duties for covered Department of Transportation positions. If an applicant/employee refuses to provide written consent for Amtrak to obtain these records, the individual will not be permitted to perform safety-sensitive functions.

 

In accordance with federal law governing security checks of covered individuals for providers of public transportation (Title 6 U.S.C. §1143), Amtrak is required to screen applicants for any permanent or interim disqualifying criminal offenses.
