POSITION SUMMARY:

 

The Sr. Manager of Retail Transportation will report to and partner closely with the Director, Retail & Digital Transportation to provide strategic vision, direction and leadership across all aspects of Retail Transportation while ensuring Ulta Beauty’s enterprise goals and objectives are met. The Sr. Manager is responsible for leading the Retail Transportation strategy and multi-channel operations across the enterprise as well as supporting the Transportation roadmap. This leader is accountable for 7 distribution centers, 6 3PL facilities, 100+ pool point locations, 30+ carriers and 1400 stores. This role includes leading and developing managers of people and deploying new capabilities within the Transportation team.

 

This role will manage several cross functional relationships with third party vendors, Ulta IT, Store Field, Store Operations, Finance, Supply Chain Planning & Operations, Distribution, Network Fulfillment, and Loss Prevention.  This role will work closely with internal stakeholders and enterprise leaders (Managers, Directors, VPs, SVPs) to optimize product flow across our network and will be responsible for leading the implementation of any changes.  In addition, this role will manage the strategy and operations of Dedicated Delivery to support the transportation transformation strategy. 

 

The Sr. Manager will deploy best practices of transportation including footprint analysis, vendor selection, execution of RFP’s, vendor compliance, contract terms and negotiations.  The scope of this role includes communicating to and developing strategic partnerships with transportation, service, and technology vendors to optimize costs while delivering service targets. In addition, this individual will develop transportation capabilities to prepare for scaling of growth and shifts in business needs.

 

CORE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Build, define, and manage the development of a outbound transportation strategic roadmap to optimize the service to our guest and ensure the strategy ties to overall Supply Chain and Transportation vision.
  • Manage the development of a comprehensive multi-distribution channel and diversified carrier portfolio, establishing and tracking KPIs to assess and improve performance.
  • P&L responsibility of 60M+ including focus on cost savings optimization, carrier procurement, & analytics to support strategic strategy.
  • Develop business cases for supply chain investments, including analysis of capital investments and associated cost savings and other benefits to guide in executive decision making.
  • Lead a team to develop and implement detailed best practices and processes to support Best in Class vision of future supply chain. Initial focus will include leveraging industry experts, developing a carrier strategy, building network optimization solutions and creating subsequent routines/best practices.
  • Lead strategic initiatives with enterprise leaders (Sr. Managers, Directors, VPs) to define and plan various business applications such as: enterprise strategic initiatives, best practice process improvement, and business continuation.
  • Collaborate with enterprise leadership (Sr. Managers, Directors, VPs) cross functionally to influence and drive targeted supply chain improvements. Lead initiatives associated with new stores, new DC logistics network development and other strategic efforts.
  • Manage consultants, contractors, and 3rd party providers to achieve desired business results for lead initiatives
  • Develop and train process implementation and documentation support for all distribution/supply chain-related projects which includes supporting and or creating project plans and timelines,
  • Plan and manage project execution, ensuring that development projects are delivered on time, on budget, and consistent with specifications.
  • Serve as liaison and SME between DC’s and various HQ departments for day-to-day outbound transportation resolution.
  • Coach, counsel, develop and motivate team to successfully achieve department objectives.
  • Continually evolve the team through introduction and deployment of industry leading practices
  • Manage performance and business continuity through analytics, enhanced visibility, and process control.
  • With a strong focus on supporting our DCs and Stores, develop strategies to ensure faster speed to market. Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders (Sr. Manager, DMs, VP, RVPs) to better understand our store/guest needs and ensure superior logistics support.
  • Manage budgeting, invoicing and accruals for all transportation business. In addition, develop and manage reports/dashboards around key metrics such as on time delivery, carrier performance, delivery forecast accuracy, etc.
  • Compliance with all DOT regulatory requirements.

REQUIREMENTS FOR CONSIDERATION:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree required.  Master’s degree preferred.
  • 10+ years supply chain experience with a focus on strategy, operations, analytics and team leadership.  Retail supply chain experience a plus.
  • Strong supply chain background with leadership roles across supply chain disciplines (preferably field and corporate).
  • Must be a self-starter and be able to successfully develop and execute against departmental goals with minimal guidance.
  • Creative problem solver with the ability to manage and drive accountability across the supply chain.
  • Demonstrated success in developing talent, managing performance and building high performing teams.
  • Strategic thought leader able to build robust plans and execute with speed, while communicating clear priorities.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships across functions and influence decisions related Supply Chain Operations
  • Ability to speak, work with, and present to large and diverse audiences.
  • Strong sense of urgency and ability to successfully lead in a fast-paced, growing environment.
  • Previous experience in SAP, TMS, Excel, Macro point, and Tableau is a plus.
  • Negotiation expertise with experience in transportation with a proven track record of optimization.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex business situations and problems, coordinate many complex activities/projects simultaneously and direct successful solutions.
  • Highly organized, detail oriented
  • Ability to work 24/7 inclusive of long hours and weekends as dictated by business needs.
  • Ability to travel as required.

  • Job location will be in Bolingbrook, IL
  • Must be able to travel up to 25% year
