Littelfuse Passenger Vehicle Business (PVB) operates in multiple engineering and manufacturing locations in US, Europe, and Asia. Littelfuse PVB is the market leader in circuit protection and sensors and offers technically superior and environmentally friendly solutions primarily for the entire Automotive industry. The Sr Expert Global Engineer for Joining Methods will be part of a world-class engineering team, with a focus on optimizing current manufacturing processes, rapid project deployment, building joining capabilities and developing new process technologies.
Responsibilities:

  • Provide the link between product design engineering and manufacturing operations/service engineering to ensure the products are designed for joining process manufacturability and manufacturing process to meet safety, quality, cycle time, labor, and cost expectations.
  • Design safe, quality, and lean cost-effective welding/joining equipment, methods and process for manufacturing processes of strategic new technology and new product development - by project managing tasks and collaborating with cross-functional teams & equipment suppliers, employing Product Design Reviews, Process Design Reviews, PFMEA, control plan, design for manufacturability, & other tools in a global manufacturing environment.
  • Comprehensive coordination of tasks in Product Design, Manufacturing Engineering, NPI, other Littelfuse departments, external tool manufacturers, equipment suppliers, and integrators to successfully build recipes or standards to design welding/joining equipment, methods, and processes.
  • Document manufacturing technical processes standards and updates based on lessons learned from environmental, health, safety, ergonomic, scrap, customer claims, OEE performance, cost of maintenance, and Process Development issues in a global environment.
  • Build capabilities in operations teams to sustain, improve, correct and change joining processes by being the recognized subject matter expert in welding/joining equipment, methods and process in a global manufacturing environment.
  • Research and Develop welding/joining technology in a global manufacturing environment.

Education:
Bachelor or university degree in Engineering required; MS or PhD preferred
Experience:
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in detailed joining technologies with focus on Laser welding
  • High volume in automotive manufacturing
  • Interpretation of technical drawings to identify and feedback opportunities for design for manufacturability & best practices, designing tools, methods and machines
  • Application of advanced manufacturing processes in joining/welding (ultrasonic, laser, MIG/TIG, Resistance, Inductive, heat stake, screw fastening, riveting, etc.) tool design, welding equipment maintenance, cost savings initiatives, project management, and
  • APQP, New Product Development (NPD), and New Product Introduction (NPI) systems.

Key Technical Skills:
  • Negotiate technically with the product engineering, equipment suppliers and tool makers,
  • Understand, document, and implement welding/joining equipment, methods, and process standards
  • Able to understand material characteristics and properties to provide material recommendations, tool designs and manufacturing techniques, and
  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills with a budget and quality mindset.
