POSITION OVERVIEW AND PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS):
Afognak Native Corporation is looking for a Senior General Ledger Accountant to join our positive, fun, and knowledgeable team. This senior position is responsible for examining, analyzing, and reconciling financial transactions in a large multi-company structure. Additionally, the Senior GL Accountant assists in training team members on journal entries, reconciling, and reviewing balance sheet statements and accounts. This senior position reports to the Corporate Controller, is a vital member of the GL team, and may have the option of working a hybrid teleworking schedule.
- Maintain the integrity of the General Ledger including the preparation, verification, and input of monthly, quarterly, and year-end journal entries
- Identify, research, and reconcile account variances
- Conduct detailed analysis of trial balances in accordance with GAAP
- Reconcile inter-company accounts and assist with inter-company allocations
- Create, review, and assist training team members on monthly reconciliation of:
- Balance sheet accounts
- Reclass requests
- Reconciliation of bank accounts
- Review of outstanding check list of stale checks and non-bank items
- Assists and communicates with other departments to clear open reconciliation items
- Leads and coordinates month end and year end closings with the General Ledger team members
- Creates and reports financial statements and operational reports (as required)
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- Bachelor's degree in accounting with 2 years' experience in General Ledger Accounting
- OR
- 5 years progressive experience in various accounting departments with 2 years in General Ledger Accounting
- Knowledge and understanding of General Accepted Accounting Practices
- Proficient in Excel, Word, and other Microsoft products
- Must be well organized, have an analytical mind, quick to learn, and require minimal direct supervision.
- Demonstrate the ability to exercise good judgment and draw valid conclusions from data gathered.
- Must have good verbal and written communication skills, be able to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical users and be able to work well as a team member.
- An understanding of accounting in a dynamic environment with experience in accounting controls involving multiple automated systems preferred and creating financial statement preferred.
- Experience using Cost Point highly desired.
