Position Summary  
 
Reporting to the Innovation Manager, the Sr. Food Technologist/Scientist will be responsible for new product and process development and improvements in our wet products portfolio for positioning into all channels.  This position will execute, implement, and report on activities related to the development of new products, improvements, or cost savings ideas for sauces, salsa, condiments, dressings, and chile products.  
 
The ideal candidate will be able to collaborate with the innovation manager, other innovation team members and cross functional team members to drive the growth strategy and portfolio development to positive business outcomes.  This position will be responsible for delivering new products in a variety of formats for retail and support development for foodservice and CPG channels.  This role may require managing people and resources to execute project delivery.  The Sr. Food Technologist/Scientist position carries with it the responsibility to mentor junior team members and grow their capabilities for contributing to the organization.  
 
Position Responsibilities 
 
  • Work closely with innovation manager to implement ofi strategy to deliver value generating innovations.
  • Execute innovation projects in the Wet Food Products area from concept through to commercialization.
  • Work with Quality Food Safety (QFS) department, external companies, and government bodies to ensure our products are food safe.
  • Use process acumen to drive continuous improvement initiatives that reduce manufacturing costs and improve quality and efficiency.
  • Engage with customers to understand customer’s job to be done and create solutions that leverage ofi’s capabilities.
  • Execute plant trials and first production runs as needed.
  • Execute shelf life studies to understand and optimize product performance.
  • Mentor junior staff to increase their technical knowledge and potential contribution to the company. Provide coaching and feedback to improve performance and knowledge.
  • Perform laboratory analysis as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
 
Position Requirements  
 
  • Bachelors’ degree in Food Science, Chemistry, or similar degree is required.  Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Seven (7) years of product development experience is required, process development experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge in thermal processing of acidified foods is required.
  • Knowledge in sauces, salsa, condiments, dressings, and chile product development is a plus.
  • Knowledge of the agriculture industry is a plus.
  • Excellent commercial understanding of the industry landscape, consumer, and marketing trends is a plus.
  • The ability to interact effectively with various functions, customers, and experience in a team environment is required.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Access, and Excel) is required.
  • Effective communication skills, including presentation, verbal and written are required.
  • Ability and willingness to travel as needed up to 15% is required. (Post COVID restrictions).
