Job Summary
Reviewing and analyzing proposed rig structural modifications for proper design and execution, to support working rigs, new builds and out of service projects. Developing the structural design packages and drawings for fabrication and installation for new design concepts , for offshore installation on the rig or in ship yards . Interface with the classification societies (ABS and DNV) as appropriate for approval of significant projects for new installations or repairs . Supporting downtime events as required from a structural perspective . Providing in-depth studies and bulletins for the fleet worldwide , with regards to structural related issues. Providing structural support and engineering ( execution and review) to implement regulatory requirements and guidelines, for operating and new vessels.
Job Description
Key Roles & Responsibilities
- Support operations and rig management teams onshore/offshore in solving engineering design and analysis problems. Related to day to day operations.
- Perform inspections and attend tests of construction work to ensure compliance with approved drawings, workmanship standards and contract specifications.
- Coordinates the work of 3rd party engineers, drafters and technicians to ensure the quality of the design criteria is met.
- Support and assist rigs operations staff, project teams, and Marketing staff with their technical queries and coordinate resolution as required.
- Review and approve engineering drawings and calculations in compliance with Classification and Regulatory Rules, and ensure adequate standards of safety are incorporated.
- Contributes to a positive relationship with the Client, Subcontractors, Vendors, and the operating divisions of the company. Ensure a high degree of cooperation to achieve the best possible results.
- Coordinate regulatory and classification body review and approvals.
- Attend, when requested, vessel inspections to define the scope of work required for vessel modifications, repairs and conversions and meetings with customers as required.
- Create, review and approve weld and heat treatment procedures. Help with selection of materials for different applications. ( metallurgy).
Education:
- Major in Naval Architecture or marine constructions/engineering or civil engineering
Experience:
- 3-5 years experience as a structural engineer / Naval Arch. with an industry related to offshore drilling. Preferred 10 year experience as structural engineer in a drilling company or shipyard providing operational and multidiscipline competence. Working experience from a rig designer is an advantage.
Skills:
- FEM analysis tool as ANSYS, hand calculations, experience with StaadPro. In-depth structural understanding. In-depth knowledge of technical drafting. MathCAD , Autocad , Navis works , Stipla . Knowledge with DNVGL , ABS ,IMO , NMA and PSA regulations . As well as knowledge with metallurgy and fabrication concepts . As well as knowledge with relevant industry standards . Preferred Certified engineer / Professional engineer recognized by a standard organization
Additional Requirements:
- Requires Offshore travel.
- Experience with offshore drilling units and/or experience in shipyards preferred.
