Job description

The Sr. Forensic Investigator will provide internal and client support and technical services.  The individual will be responsible for collecting and tracking all evidence collected or received by UnitedLex and performing daily tasks associated with client engagements.  Additionally, the Sr. Forensic Investigator will utilize their depth of knowledge and forensics skill set to perform Forensic Investigations of electronic data from collection through delivery. The role will also be responsible for the enhancement of the company’s forensics service offering(s), mentorship of team members and collaboration with leadership on department technology assessments, testing and process improvements.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Apply industry accepted principles in retrieving, recovering and preserving digital evidence from mobile devices, workstations, servers and cloud-based sources 
  • Perform in-depth Forensic Analysis on digital evidence collected and provide in-depth reporting to clients regarding findings
  • Proficient understanding of technical products and services in the DFIR market – Including wide knowledge of tools such as FTK, EnCase, Axiom, Oxygen, Cellebrite, X1, WebPreserver, Forensic Email Collector, and all Forensic Imaging Software
  • Consult with and take direction from supervisors, engagement managers, and clients regarding case investigation and status 
  • Serve as primary escalation of all technical issues from the ULX Forensic Team
  • Lead initiatives to improve DFIR service offerings – Collaborate with the team and BD to ensure that ULX is providing the best product offering available 
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to less experienced team members
  • Manage client expectations and escalate customer feedback
  • Work independently and/or with other department leaders to generate and strengthen processes, especially around inter-departmental touch-points
  • Data Collection management (Full, Targeted, Remote, Onsite) for our clients, including, strong working knowledge of the evidence locker (check-ins, checkouts, inventory, retention) 
  • Collection log updates and overall status reporting 
  • Forensic support help for Discovery business (i.e. copy issues, imaging help, physical drive problems) 
  • Maintaining data retention schedules and tracking 
  • Continually seek opportunities to improve, automate and increase quality in procedures and services while deepening client relationships and ensuring client satisfaction
  • Identify project risks early and plan for mitigation and minimization

REQUIREMENTS & COMPETENCIES:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Forensics, Computer Science, Information Systems or related field
  • Have at least 5+ years of Forensic Services with at least 3+ years performing e-discovery related activities 
  • Complete understanding of Data Forensics and the full EDRM Model as it relates to all Cyber and eDiscovery processes
  • Must have an extensive Windows, Mac/Linux, and Mobile Device knowledge base. 
  • Deep understanding of computer forensic tools, electronic collection utilities, forensic software and processes; including but not limited to processes such as AccessData FTK, EnCase Forensic/Enterprise, Axiom, Forensic Email Collector, Cellebrite, and Oxygen
  • Strong knowledge of evidence handling and preservation best practices 
  • Experience with search technologies and tools, FTK, DtSearch, SQL Server, Analytics, etc.
  • Proficient in the use of encryption, both hardware and software 
  • Displays outstanding verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to legal and non-technical audiences. 
  • Experience providing training, coaching, and mentorship to more junior team members
  • Experience working across multiple shores, time zones, and cultures to create a global team
  • Able to work off hours and travel both domestically and internationally on short notice
  • Able to work under tight deadlines and handle multiple, detailed tasks.
  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and able to work independently and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing 
  • Skillful at analysis and troubleshooting of related systems components 
  • Ability to establish priorities, work independently and proceed with objectives 
  • Ability to develop/follow standard processes and complete documentation as needed 
  • AccessData Certified Examiner credentials (ACE) or equivalent 
  • Expert Witness Testimony, Affidavit submissions, or Legal Writing is preferred. 
  • Scripting proficiency (SQL, Python, PowerShell) is preferred

Salary Range

The salary range for this role reflects the range of factors that inform case-by-case compensation decisions including education, experience, training, licensure, certification, and geography as well as the business and organizational needs specific to the role. Compensation ranges may be broad, reflecting flexibility within the budget and title to consider candidates of varied experience. A reasonable estimate of the current compensation range for this role is $85,000 to $105,000. Select roles are additionally eligible for Incentive Compensation in the form of our Annual Performance Bonus Program or Sales Commission Policy.
