The demand for high quality health economic and outcomes research (HEOR) and real-world evidence (RWE) to support drug development, health technology assessment/access decisions, product differentiation, and clinical decision making continues to increase. The purpose of the Lilly Value, Evidence, and Outcomes (VEO) team is to accelerate equitable patient access and transform healthcare delivery through the execution and communication of bold, high impact science. We are looking for talented, upbeat, creative, diverse, influential, and collaborative team members to join the VEO function and Team Lilly.
The purpose of the Therapeutic Area (TA) Senior Director is to provide strategic leadership to assets within the TA portfolio, and to lead the integration of Health Outcomes (HO) strategy and implementation with relevant business and alliance partners. The Senior Director will lead and develop research talent and capabilities to provide support for all prioritized products in the portfolio. This individual will be responsible for strategy and implementation of VEO projects and studies throughout Phases 1-3 of development. They will also work closely with the VEO US Customer Engagement team and the VEO International team to coordinate and transition work needed for geographic needs after product launch.
The scope of the position encompasses the entire Immunology portfolio from early phase development, global registration, and US commercialization.
Responsibilities:
Objective 1: Establish TA HO Research Priorities

  • Establish priorities for VEO activities in alignment with molecule teams and TA Governance teams.
  • Input into the TA portfolio strategy to the Business Unit
  • Accountable for design and delivery of platform and disease HO strategy
  • Ensure that business plans are appropriate and aligned geographically based on the therapeutic HO research strategy
  • Ensure geographic input and integrate research plans across geographies
  • Provide consulting and coaching to VEO scientists to ensure that appropriate HO product strategies are developed and delivered

Objective 2: Influence TA Strategy
  • Engage therapeutic area leaders and collaborate with geographic leaders to drive strategy and deliver bold, high impact research
  • Contribute to clinical trial and HO protocols, data analysis and manuscripts
  • Ensure input is provided for product development teams for completion and updating of the Target Product Profile/ Draft Launch Label.
  • Accountable for major HO study design elements for key studies to support brand/product

Objective 3: Align appropriate HO Support at the Product Level
  • Facilitate strong collaboration between HO and medical, PRA, regulatory, LVA, LCCI, etc. to optimally support the brand/molecule
  • Seek alignment within VEO to optimally support the brand/molecule
  • Work closely with other VEO leaders to ensure on-strategy, on-time, on-budget delivery of all research deliverables in support of the Biomedicines portfolio

Objective 4: Leadership/Management
  • Recruit, develop, retain, and handle performance of HO personnel supporting the business unit.
  • Collaborate with VEO project management to ensure appropriate operational support.
  • Provide scientific leadership and coaching regarding strategy, tactics and teamwork.
  • Communicate and collaborate with functional partners e.g., IDS, statistics, scientific communications.
  • Develop and implement HO strategy as part of the VEO relevant governance.
  • Ensure quality and compliance of research execution and deliverables.

Basic Requirements:
  • Doctoral (e.g. PhD, DrPH, ScD, MD) or PharmD degree with 5+ years of experience.
  • Management and leadership experience.

Additional Skills/Preferences:
  • Deep therapeutic expertise in research discipline related to health outcomes.
  • Strong understanding of US and global health care systems and environment.
  • Relevant disease state expertise in the field of Therapeutic Area.
  • Proven ability to influence across the organization.
  • Experience with alliances and/or partnered products.
  • Ability to manage to results.
  • Ability to manage a large volume research enterprise.
  • Ability to encourage and set strategic direction.

Additional Information:
  • Travel
  • Preference for Indianapolis-based flexible work arrangement. However, we will consider remote worker.

Lilly currently anticipates that the base salary for this position could range from between $160,500 to $235,000 and will depend, in part, on the successful candidate's qualifications for the role, including education and experience. Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance). In addition, Lilly offers a comprehensive benefit program to eligible employees, including eligibility to participate in a company-sponsored 401(k); pension; vacation benefits; eligibility for medical, dental, vision and prescription drug benefits; flexible benefits (e.g., healthcare and/or dependent day care flexible spending accounts); life insurance and death benefits; certain time off and leave of absence benefits; and well-being benefits (e.g., employee assistance program, fitness benefits, and employee clubs and activities).Of course, the compensation described above is subject to change and could be higher or lower than the range described above.
