The Sr. Accountant is accountable for end-to-end process and analysis of accounting and reporting activities for Freshway and Freshway Logistics operation. Subject matter expert in at least one area. Delivers timely and accurate finance and accounting services in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and consideration of proper SOX controls. Collaborates with operation team leaders and corporate office functions on analyses/activities. Performs compilation, posting and review of month-end journal entries and balance sheet account reconciliations. Actively participates and provides GAAP and financial guidance for company initiatives and projects.

This position has been segmented as Onsite meaning The work is completed 100% onsite at an assigned location.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for complex accounting activities related to maintenance of complete and accurate general ledger, reports, and financial statements.

  • Prepares financial and operations reports, including, but not limited to, budgets, forecasts, variance analysis and efficiency and productivity reports that can be used as analysis and decision-making tools

  • Respond to complex questions within existing policies and procedures, exercising independent judgement.

  • Provide accurate and timely delivery of financial results through a robust monthly/quarterly close process.

  • Perform analysis of assigned areas and partner with functional leaders and operations to ensure timely and accurate accounting, planning and related analysis.

  • Process weekly Freshway Logistics payroll, including reviewing and maintaining accurate payroll data as well as researching and responding to employees’ payroll questions

  • Document and implement financial controls, policies and procedures.

  • Look for ways to increase the efficiency and effectiveness for accounting department activities and overall company operations; recommend solutions, design, and implement process improvements

  • Work on assets and capital projects including approval, finalizing, assigning asset tags, logging into system, and completion of the process

  • Comply with food safety practices and all applicable requirements as they pertain to SQF and that are maintained

  • Support company driven food safety improvement initiatives

  • Team with others or lead projects, research and system related tasks as assigned.

  • Advocate and demonstrate the values and behaviors of the Company Cultural Beliefs

  • Other duties as assigned by manager

Relationships:

  • Internal : Provide financial results or analyses to Freshway management team, produce commercial team and FP&A.

  • External : No external customer facing expectations

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of relevant work experience required (in role or similar role)

  • Clear, concise communicator able to interface with all levels of the organization.

  • Advanced skills using MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related analytical field required (or related experience)

Certifications/Training:

  • Job relevant certifications preferred (e.g. CPA)
