Department ATHLETICS (BA-ATHL-IUBLA) Job Summary Under the direction of the Sports Turf Manager oversee the maintenance of all athletic fields with an emphasis on athlete safety, fair play and visual appeal. The venues to be maintained: Memorial Stadium, Mellencamp Pavilion, Football Practice, Field Hockey, Jerry Yeagley Field, Bart Kaufman Field, Billy Hayes Track Complex, Sam Bell XC Course, Andy Mohr Field, Men's and Women's Practice Soccer fields. Department Specific Responsibilities Completes appropriate testing and maintenance of all-natural grass and synthetic playing surfaces.

Daily activities will include but not be limited to mowing, painting, field marking, string trimming and irrigation maintenance. Field renovation work will also be a major component of this position. Maintains the non-athletic field surfaces in terms of string trimming and mowing around the common grounds of the athletic complex.

Provides game day support for various athletic events including game day setup duties. Department Specific Responsibilities Mows, trims and edges grass and turf of specialized areas using riding mower, push mower, weed whip and edger. Mulches, weeds, removes thatch, aerates, and trims and edges around flower beds, walks, pathways and walls.

Prepares planting beds with hand and power tools; integrates soil amendments; plants bulbs, flowers, ground covers, trees and shrubs; applies mulch. Prunes trees, shrubs, vines and hedges. Oversees irrigation systems, including regular inspections, adjustments, and repairs to ensure proper watering schedules and optimal turf and/or grass health.

Applies seed, fertilizer and chemicals. Rakes leaves. Performs snow and ice removal with hand tools and power equipment .

Install, maintain, and repair irrigation equipment, including sprinklers, valves, controllers, and pipes. Perform routine checks and maintenance on equipment to ensure proper functioning. Inspect and maintain fences, nets, goals, and other specialized equipment.

Transports parts, tools, equipment, and materials. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned, including general building maintenance duties. Drives University vehicles as needed.

Works any shift as needed. 24-hour a day emergency response as needed. Assist with snow removal activities as necessary.

Qualifications EDUCATION Required High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED) WORK EXPERIENCE Required 2 years of experience with landscape or grounds related work OR 2 years of experience with light general maintenance Preferred Turf management experience LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES Required Valid driver's license and ability to be insured by Indiana University Upon Date of Hire SKILLS Required Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner Proficient communication skills Maintains a high degree of professionalism Demonstrates time management and priority setting skills Demonstrates a high commitment to quality Possesses flexibility to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment Seeks to acquire knowledge in area of specialty Highly thorough and dependable Demonstrates a high level of accuracy, even under pressure Excellent organizational skills Ability to represent the company with external constituents Ability to drive multiple projects to successful completion Strong verbal communication and listening skills Ability to build strong customer relationships Knowledge of tools, equipment, techniques, skills, materials, and methods of landscaping and maintenance of lawns and formal plantings Ability to lead, plan, and organize the work of grounds workers Ability to determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job Ability to operate riding and push mower, power tiller, power edger, weed whip, blower, sprayer, tractor, skid steer loader, dump-bed truck, and basic hand tools Ability to work with wide variety of cultures and backgrounds May be required to acquire and maintain position-required certificates Advanced knowledge of hardscape materials Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions Preferred Passion for Indiana University Athletics Substantial knowledge of turf maintenance procedures Knowledge of tools, equipment, field marking techniques and materials related to turf management Ability to determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job Ability to operate riding and push mower, power edger, blower, tractor, skid steer loader and basic hand and power tools Ability to perform minor maintenance of grounds related equipment Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner, must be self-motivated and able to work well independently or as member of a team Strong communication skills Ability to work professionally along side administrators, coaches, student athletes and officials Working Conditions / Demands This role requires the ability to remain in a stationary position as well as the ability to move about the workplace for long durations. It requires effective communication, the ability to operate machinery, tools, and controls. The role requires the ability to ascend/descend ladders/stairs, and to position one's self in low level positions, detect a variety of chemicals and/or gases.

The role requires the ability to ascend to rooftops and move in tight spaces to perform and complete inspections. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation. Works during inclement weather (i.e.

snow and ice) when weather emergencies dictate that the department is needed to take care of the campus Work Hours This position will require some availability on nights and weekends.
