JOB SUMMARY
The Sports Information Director has various responsibilities including but not limited to being the primary statistical contact for all Columbia varsity athletics, creating content for gokoalas.com, updating rosters and schedules, and developing gameday previews, recaps, and feature releases; manages Columbia Athletics' social media platforms. This position has regular interactions with athletic administration, the Appalachian Athletic Conference, and the NAIA to assist in developing awards, video compilations, and other functions for Columbia College's end-of-year athletic awards ceremony. This position works collaboratively with Institutional Advancement and University Relations on Alumni Events, secures athletic sponsorships, and ensures the Sports Information Office is active in all College fundraising initiatives; and performs related duties and functions as assigned. This position works within a general outline of work to be performed and develops work methods and sequences under general supervision of the Athletic Director.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Primary statistical contact for all Columbia varsity athletics; creates content for gokoalas.com, updates rosters and schedules, and develops gameday previews, recaps, and feature releases.
  • Manages Columbia Athletics' social media platforms.
  • Interacts with athletic administration, the Appalachian Athletic Conference, and the NAIA to assist in developing awards, video compilations, and other functions for Columbia College's end-of-year athletic awards ceremony.
  • Responsible for live statistical compilation and coordination of Public Address Announcers, in-game music, live video streams, scoreboard operation, and video board operation during games.
  • Nominates student-athletes for various athletic and academic awards (conference and national awards through AAC).
  • Supervises Sports Information graduate assistants and undergraduate student workers, and produces interactive and digital gameday programs, media guides, and game stories.
  • Works collaboratively with Institutional Advancement and University Relations on Alumni Events, secures athletic sponsorships, and ensures the Sports Information Office is active in all College fundraising initiatives.
  • Performs other related duties and functions as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
  • Bachelor's degree in sports management, business, marketing, public relations or closely related field; Master's preferred.
  • Must have at least two (2) years of experience in Sports Information, advertising, marketing, media, promotions or public relations.
  • Prior experience working in a college environment with interactions with faculty, staff, and students preferred.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours which may include early/late hours, occasional weekends, and the ability to travel.
  • Must pass a background check.
  • Must be willing to work within and follow the guidelines of the College, and the Department of Athletics at all times.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work requires the ability to move and lift 30 to 50 pounds independently and be able to perform strenuous physical labor, and the ability to exert 30 to 50 pounds of force frequently. May be required to use a ladder. Also requires frequent bending, squatting, standing, reaching, climbing, kneeling, stooping, crawling, and occasional sitting. May be required to occasionally work in small, hard to reach spaces. Work is performed both inside a facility and outdoors in all weather conditions. Some hazardous situations may exist based on work to be performed.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work environment may risk exposure to bright/dim light, dusts and pollen, extreme heat and/or cold, wet or humid conditions, extreme noise levels, vibration, fumes and/or noxious odors, moving machinery, electrical shock, heights, disease/pathogens, toxic/caustic chemicals.
