Sports Dome Manager
(Full Time, Exempt)
Hiring range is $60,367 to $75,394 annually based on qualifications, education and experience as it relates to the position.
Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Recreation Manager, this position is responsible for the overall management of the Sports Dome operations, programming, events, birthday parties, rentals, and custodial/customer services. This position is primarily responsible for leadership, day-to-day management and operation of youth and adult programs, leagues, sports camps, rentals, and special events.
Essential Duties:
  • Oversee and lead day-to-day operations and staff for assigned area and the Sports Dome facility.
  • Prepares and maintains a complete facility schedule of programs and rentals.
  • Coordinates daily, weekly, and monthly building and maintenance/custodial schedule.
  • Effectively co-Manages and oversees all sport contractual agreements with the Athletics Manager.
  • Hires, trains, schedules, supervises and evaluates assigned staff; provides or coordinates staff training, and works with employees to correct deficiencies.
  • Develops competent and productive staff by planning, organizing, and implementing a consistent employee training program, with a strong emphasis on safety, quality customer service, and establishing customer loyalty.
  • Prepare, enforce, maintain and modify policies and procedures manuals; conduct periodic staff meetings to provide and gather information, answer questions and respond to complaints and concerns, both internally and externally.
  • Develop, implement, and track results of all marketing strategies to ensure the utilization; notify the public of District events. Promote a positive image to the public. Participate in community planning and organizational meetings.
  • Determine community needs by evaluating programs and activities; make recommendations for improvement and future development, and implement changes.
  • Prepare and monitor budget, manage revenues and expenditures and prepare financial reports. Negotiate concession contracts. Prepare purchase orders, RFP's, and invoice requests. Prepare short and long-range revenue/expenditure projections, check revenue streams, etc. Develop and implement strategies to increase usage of assigned areas. Calculate program fees to meet cost-recovery goals and make recommendations. Formulate comprehensive business plans by researching and analyzing market information is essential.
  • Identifies external funding opportunities. Submits grant proposals. Persuasively communicates program goals to potential funders to obtain funding needed to maintain exceptional programming.
  • Plan, direct and oversee multiple capital projects independently or in conjunction with other District staff to ensure successful and timely completion.
  • Respond appropriately to program related emergencies such as evacuations, medical emergencies, suspicious behavior, etc. Includes observe necessary precautions to assure general public safety; inspect facilities/grounds for safety and maintenance needs.
  • Recognize emergency and dangerous situations by reacting quickly and calmly; administer first aid as needed. Ensure proper reporting and complete Accident/Incident report.
  • Correct or inform supervisor of any hazards; complete routine walkthroughs of program areas.
  • Maintains a culture of providing excellent customer service and ensures consistency across all facilities and programs. Responds tactfully and in a timely fashion to inquiries and problems in person, by email, phone and mail providing helpful information and explanations in line with District policies and procedures. Thoughtfully handles confrontational or stressful interactions.
  • Works with Maintenance Supervisor to create and coordinate a system to monitor all mechanical systems to include HVAC, electrical, and plumbing as well as directly supervised program needs throughout the District.
  • Maintains records and prepares periodic reports as directed including attendance, program registration, personnel reports, and others as needed.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with District employees, vendors, and various outside user groups to coordinate their programs and special events.
  • Conducts staff meetings on a regular occurrence. Promotes teamwork District-wide.
  • Attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of recreational services.
  • Attends program, department and district meetings and trainings, as well as serves on a variety of District wide committees.
  • Assist staff with general operations as needed.
  • Attend work on a regular, reliable and punctual basis.

Education and/or Experience:
  • Bachelor Degree in Recreation or a closely related field is required.
  • Must have two (2) years experience working in a leadership and supervisory position in similar facility and program operations with exposure to the supervision of staff, cash management and budgeting, and public relations and marketing.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered.

Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements:
  • CPR, First Aid and AED certificates, or the ability to obtain upon hire, are required.
  • Sports Officials Certifications preferred.
  • Must possess a valid Colorado Driver License or the ability to obtain upon hire and maintain an acceptable driving record.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong knowledge of Parks and Recreation services primarily in the area of athletic and sport program development.
  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of a Recreation facility including operations, maintenance, and programming.
  • Understands the general philosophy of recreation and its application.
  • Knowledge of basic techniques and methodology of organizing groups in a recreation setting.
  • Knowledge of emergency first-aid procedures.
  • Knowledge of computer software and an ability to utilize standard business applications.
  • Skilled in training, communications, and public relations required.
  • Ability to interpret and evaluate the work of staff effectively.
  • Must be highly motivated and take direction well with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbally.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and high volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness.
  • Ability to provide outstanding customer service and get along with coworkers, patrons, and supervisors and interact with employees and vendors in a professional manner.

Material and Equipment Used:
To successfully perform the required job duties, this position regularly uses a phone, computer, printer, fax and other office equipment. This position may need to drive personal vehicle to various District facilities.
Working Environment:
This position primarily works in a Recreation Center and comfortable office environment subject to continuous interruptions and background noises. Occasionally works outside subject to variable weather conditions, ecosystems and landscape.
Physical Requirements:
Stand, walk, handle and operate objects and office equipment, reach outward and above shoulder and carry, pull, push or lift up to 25 pounds without assistance. May occasionally climb, crawl, squat, kneel and lift up to 50 lbs. without assistance. The employee must be able to see close up and at a distance with vision acuity and the ability to adjust focus allowing a broad field of vision. The employee must communicate clearly and effectively, must understand and be understood.
