Woodland School District, based on successful candidate's experience and preference within the SLP team
Days/Hrs: 183 days/7 hours per day (1.0 FTE), plus 6 professional development days
Start Date: August 12, 2024
Pay Schedule: LINK to 23-24 Schedule, 2024 - 2025 TBD
Benefits: Eligible for medical, dental, vision, Ad&D, life insurance and LTD through the School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB). Position is WA State Department of Retirement Systems eligible.

Job Summary:
The Speech Pathologist/Communication Disorders Specialist is responsible for speech/language therapy to communication disorder students from regular education and special education and communicates, consults and cooperates with other members of the school staff. The work assists toward the accomplishment of the mission of Woodland Public Schools of preparing students for career, life, and college so that they can become a responsible and successful citizen. Work is performed under the direction of the Executive Director of Learning Supports & Alternative.
Requirements:
  • Speech and Language Pathology Certification for Washington State -- Master's degree with emphasis in student behavior preferred
  • Valid Washington State ESA Certificate
  • Knowledge of state and federal legislation for disabilities (WAC 392-172A, IDEA '04, Section 504, etc.)
  • Ability to uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures
  • Ability to conduct individual, group, and classroom language instruction with young children
  • Ability to deliver articulation therapy
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain individual case records according to law
  • Knowledge of assistive/augmentative communication technology
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing using District-provided hardware and software
  • Demonstrated ability to work directly with Special Education personnel, parents and school staff when developing individual educational programs for students with speech and language deficits
  • Demonstrated awareness and appreciation of diversity among individual students and ability to set appropriate expectations for individual students
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and travel between buildings as required
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct appropriate testing, diagnostic and evaluative activities of students with communication disorders
  • Experience working with interdisciplinary and interagency teams
  • Demonstrated willingness to participate in professional development activities designed to upgrade professional skills
  • Demonstrated ability to direct, supervise and evaluate students
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate activities between SLP services and other district programs
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Organize and conduct an identification program for communication disorders by utilizing appropriate screening criteria, materials, procedures and recordkeeping
  • Select and employ appropriate diagnostic procedures and develop guidelines for a comprehensive remediation program
  • Maintain a system to record all identification and evaluative data and continuous student performance information
  • Identify factors which determine the effectiveness of therapy
  • Participate as a team member in special education assessment, eligibility and program design
  • Complete all required reports and records, including Medicaid billings, in a timely and accurate manner
  • Consult with parents, staff and administration regarding student needs
  • Understand and comply with current legislation regarding children with disabilities
  • Understand and follow policies and procedures as adopted by the school district
  • Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and board policies
  • Follow Code of Ethics and maintain a high standard of professional behavior
  • Other duties may be assigned

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.

The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.
