Job Title:Speech Language Pathologist Assistant
Reports to: Director of Special Programs
Dept./School: Campus Assigned
Wage/Hour Status: Exempt
Pay Grade: 302 - 197 days

Primary Purpose:
Assist the Speech/Language Pathologist with providing speech-language pathology service to students with speech, voice, or language disorders. Provide therapeutic intervention to eliminate or reduce problems or impairments that interfere with their students' ability to derive full benefit from the educational program.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
  • Bachelor's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited college or university

Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Language Pathology and Audiology

Experience:
  • Two year's experience as SLPA preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Therapy
  1. Assist the SLP in providing individual and group therapy to students consistent with speech and language goals contained in the Individual Educational Plans.
  2. Provide feedback to the Speech/Language Pathologist for modification of therapy plans.
  3. Assist the SLP in developing materials for the students served.

Consultation
  1. Communicate effectively with colleagues, students and Speech/Language Pathologists regarding the accomplishment of therapy goals and needs of the student.

Student Management
  1. Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the maturity level and interests of students.
  2. Assist in the selection of equipment and instructional materials.

General
  1. Demonstrates thoroughness, reliability and a high degree of accuracy in performing work assignments.
  2. Works cooperatively with others and maintains a positive attitude in the work environment.
  3. Demonstrates initiative and good judgment in problem solving and decision-making.
  4. Reports promptly and maintains good attendance.
  5. Uses time productively on the job.
  6. Follows district policies, rules and regulations.
  7. Accepts supervisory direction.
  8. Must be able to perform the essential functions of walking and interacting with students and/or district employees in the specific work site assigned (classroom or office setting).
  9. Demonstrates tact, courtesy and helpfulness in dealing with staff, students, parents, and visitors in the district.
  10. Be a positive role model for students; support mission of school district.
  11. Maintain a professional relationship with supervisors, colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  12. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  13. Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills including assigned areas aligned to student needs, disabilities, IDEA, state special education and district guidelines.
  14. Keep informed of and comply with federal, state, district, and school regulations and policies for special education teachers.
  15. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
  16. Maintain confidentiality.
  17. Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
None.
Equipment Used:
Wheelchair lift, ramp, personal computer, copier, and audiovisual equipment.
Working Conditions:
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom or adaptive equipment. May be required to lift and position students with physical disabilities; control behavior through physical restraint; and assist non-ambulatory students. Exposure to biological hazards. May be required to work more than 40 hours during the work week.
