Learning and behavioral objectives are achieved, which may include the following:
- Provide classroom assistance with students in reinforcing learning.
- Work positively with all students, including students with special needs.
- Follow behavioral management plans of the classroom teacher.
- Responsible for safety protocols as outlined in the School Emergency Operations Plan.
- Anticipate student needs and tutor individual and small groups of students.
- Support the general classroom learning activities in a positive and enthusiastic manner.
- Assist in the supervision of students as directed by the classroom teacher.
- Communicate effectively with students, teachers, and parents.
- Participate in professional development activities which will help improve the ability to work more effectively with students.
- Maintain records as requested by the classroom teacher.
- Be able to effectively communicate observations of students, when appropriate.
- Supervise students in the hallways, study hall, detention, cafeteria, and recess, as needed.
- Be respectful to others and courteous to teachers. Develop and maintain friendly and positive relationship with students.
- Comply promptly and cheerfully to request made by Building Administration.
- Observe all Board of Education policies, regulations, administrative rules, and procedures.
- Guard the confidentiality of all information placed in the charge of this office. Breach of this trust shall be grounds for dismissal
- Perform such other duties as may be assigned by School Office Administration.
Required Qualifications:
To be considered for a position as a teacher assistant, applicants MUST have Educator License with Stipulations (ELS): Endorsed as a Paraprofessional Educator. For those without the above, applicants must meet at least one of the four requirements:
- High school Diploma- Short Term Approval - 3 Year Paraprofessional License
- Associate's degree or higher; or
- 60 semester hours of coursework.
Additional Qualifications:
- Be of good health and character.
- Be able to follow both written and oral directions.
- Be willing to work with and around adults and children.
- Be able to follow a set of work schedules, and procedures.
- Be willing to learn new skills, and follow directions.
- Experience working with children in a school environment, preferred.
