Primary Function:
The Specimen Accessioner at BrightStar Care plays a pivotal role in our healthcare delivery system. This position involves:
- Verifying accuracy of client and specimen details.
- Examining specimens for adequacy and appropriateness.
- Capturing client and specimen data electronically.
- Sanitizing benchtops and maintaining a clean lab environment.
- Labeling and numbering specimens, and preparing aliquots.
- Centrifuging specimens for analysis.
- Disposing of specimens more than seven days old.
- Preparing specimens for transfer to a reference laboratory.
- Assisting clients and phlebotomists with inquiries about specimens and test turnaround times.
- Complying with all applicable laws, regulations, and company procedures and policies.
Working Conditions:
- Exposure to blood, body fluids, contagious diseases, and infectious waste.
- Ability to handle high-volume work while performing stat testing on potentially critical patients.
Job Requirements:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain accuracy and efficiency in a fast-paced environment.
- Teamwork capabilities.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Clerical skills, including written record-keeping and keyboard literacy.
- Ability to plan, schedule, implement, and follow through on activities.
Reports to:
- Medical Director, CEO, Laboratory Director
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
- Mobility is essential.
- Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that enable these senses to function adequately for job requirements.
- Ability to distinguish color.
- Possible exposure to toxic chemicals, caustics, fumes, and airborne particles.
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
