The Golden Parks and Recreation Department is a CAPRA Accredited Parks and Recreation Department and most recently received the Gold Medal Award from the National Recreation & Parks Association (NRPA).
Prepares and teaches Zumba classes to youth, adults, and seniors. Coordinates and prepares music and presents choreography of class routines. Ensures a safe and fun experience for all participants.
JOB SUMMARY
Instruct participants through series of Zumba Gold/ Dance Fitness instructor movements for all levels of fitness.
Handles and reports to the Recreation Coordinator - Fitness any problems, concerns, or emergencies that arise during their classes.
Responsible for securing a substitute when unable to work assigned class.
Provides positive, fun, and safe experiences to the class participants.
Provides good customer service.
Follows and enforces all department policies, rules, and regulations while maintaining a friendly and professional attitude.
Assists Recreation Coordinator with evaluation of the program by providing feedback and recommendations for class/program improvement.
Responsible for set up and take down of equipment when applicable. Responsible for keeping equipment and class space organized.
Other duties may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or general education diploma (GED). Previous teaching experience preferred. Must be self-motivated, the ability to work independently, and interact with people of all ages and abilities. Ability to make sound decisions and use good judgment during stressful situations. Must have excellent customer service skills.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Current CPR certification preferred.
Zumba certification from Zumba Fitness required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Must have excellent customer service skills. Ability to make sound decisions and use good judgment during stressful situations.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must be self-motivated and able to work independently. Ability to work well with people of all ages and abilities.
MATERIALS & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED
Materials associated with Zumba instruction. CD player, IPod/MP3 docking station.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; move fitness equipment including indoor bicycles; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and distance vision.

Work environment is primarily in an indoor setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
