Job title: Specialty Buyer

Salary: Starting at $53k to $69k Depending on experience

Schedule: Monday-Friday 8am to 5pm

Location: Hillsboro, Oregon

The Specialty Buyer will assist the Purchasing Department to coordinate inventory management, purchasing programs, and other purchasing responsibilities. They will provide support for Inventory Specialists and assist with yard inventory management.

This position reports to the Purchasing Manager and works directly with Commodity and Hardlines Buyers. They interact daily with corporate personnel and Inventory Specialists.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Minimum three-year's prior experience in purchasing of hard lines and commodity products
  • Previous experience with Point-of-Sale software
  • Ability to speak, write, and read English required
  • Must be able to operate personal computer, smartphone, scanner, and any other equipment necessary for the job
  • Must be able to type 30+ WPM
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Class C driver's license or reliable alternative transportation required

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Competitively price non-commodity items in accordance with market variables
  • Conduct computer training on new products and procedures in Central Purchasing
  • Work with Inventory Specialists in monitoring and establishing each yard's individual inventory levels, re-order points and replenishment systems for non-commodity panel and lumber products
  • Interview vendors and assess marketability of new non-commodity items available in the marketplace
  • Make recommendations to management and other team members for adopting/deleting product lines
  • Identify specific items to promote via traditional advertising, e-commerce, statement stuffers, promotions, etc. Items and avenues to be decided based on trends such as seasons, holidays, special buys etc.
  • Assist with purchasing responsibilities for commodities, hard lines, and specialty items as required
  • Back up buyers as necessary
  • Exercise proactive skills in assessing market trends for optimal purchasing leverage on non-commodity items
  • Evaluate and maintain aggressively competitive pricing strategy in accordance with changing market trends
  • Assist with proactive positive product claims resolutions. Duties to include verifying completeness of paperwork and timely follow-up by salespeople and suppliers and other tasks as needed
  • Liaison with Central Trucking and outside vendors to assure timely delivery on ordered goods
  • Update and maintain primary and secondary vendor lists
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

This position works in an office environment at a desk with a computer.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to work indoors in a normal office environment for an entire day
  • Must be able to grasp, talk, hear, and operate a computer and keyboard
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs
  • Both local and overnight travel may be required
