Salary: ACE 4, H-M $53,780 --$60,761, DOE
Job Summary
The Operations Support Specialist serves in the Maintenance and Operations Departments at the Anchorage School District. This position supports directors and supervisors by performing daily scheduling and management of personnel, ordering materials, performing payroll, and developing training guides and documents. The specialist reports to the assistant director of Business Operations. The position has a retirement association with the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS).
 
Job Requirements
The following are required:
  1. A high school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Two years of experience providing administrative and/or customer service support.
  3. A valid Alaska driver's license and have an available vehicle for travel to schools throughout the Anchorage School District.
The following are preferred:
  1. An associate's or bachelor's degree in business management, logistics, or another related field.
  2. Experience in a large governmental or institutional setting.
  3. Experience in operations, scheduling, procurement, and payroll.
  4. Bilingual in English and one of the following languages: Spanish, Tagalog, or Hmong.
  5. Knowledge of maintenance and custodial processes and practices.
  6. Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with staff, other district personnel, and the public.
  7. Ability to work and make decisions independently.
  8. Ability to plan, organize, and supervise the work of others.
  9. Experience working with Microsoft software.
 
Essential Job Functions
  1. Communicates with supervisors regularly, in writing and verbally, to provide information regarding individual progress and status within the program.
  2. Supports the Maintenance and Operations business office functions to include payroll, accounting, HR, and finance.
  3. Manages the phone lines and ensures communications reach the appropriate individuals.
  4. Organizes and processes purchase transactions to the appropriate budget code and prepares budget reports.
  5. Assures that industry standards pertaining to sanitation and safety practices are observed and maintained.
  6. Resolves routine complaints and personnel issues.
  7. Adheres to department and ASD practices and procedures.
  8. Develops, implements, and maintains departmental training and collateral materials.
  9. Develops and maintains schoolwork station and emergency shut off maps.
  10. Works with supervisors to assure that job expectations and program requirements are clearly defined and understood, procedures and department guidelines met, and objectives accomplished.
  11. Assists in maintaining inventory and issuing PPE and other supplies to personnel.
  12. Works with directors and supervisors to meet and facilitate existing and anticipated training needs of the department.
  13. Creates work orders, facilitates procurement, and enters data into the CMMS program.
 
Physical /Mental Demands
The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs. Additionally, the employee must be able to understand vague and implicit instructions, be able to readily recall facts and details, handle conflict and make effective decisions under pressure. The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment.

Work Environment
Work is performed in a professional environment with a wide variety of individuals having differing functions, personalities and abilities, including working with diverse groups of people in a variety of different settings.
 
While performing the duties of this job the employee may be regularly exposed to a video display. The employee may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Offers of employment are contingent upon completion of a satisfactory criminal background check. For certificated positions, this is in addition to the background check conducted through the certification process with the Alaska State Department of Education and Early Development (DEED).
