PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The Operating Practices Certification Specialist - position is responsible for Canadian Pacific Kanas City’s certification programs. This position will ensure that employees are certified and recertified in compliance with federal requirements. In addition, the Operating Practices Certification Specialist - position will provide support other stakeholders in the Operating Rules and Practices group. Maintaining current knowledge of standard methodologies in training and regulatory requirements is critical to the success of this position.


POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Deliver operational results that align with department commitments
  • Plans and prioritize work to meet business unit commitments aligned with company goals and financial responsibilities
  • Maintain locomotive engineer, remote control operator, and conductor rosters as related to certification
  • Represents CPKC at industry and regulatory meetings relating to the certification of locomotive engineers, remote control operators, and conductors
  • Monitors annual performance and certification requirements, provides escalation to Operations stakeholders, as required
  • Creates and prints certification cards
  • Validates vision and hearing requirements are complete
  • Ensures certification records are maintained in accordance with federal requirements and internal retention policies
  • Handles certification processes, including suspensions, revocations, reinstatements, denials of certification, and FRA Operating Crew Review Board appeals
  • Review all certification related transcripts
  • Works closely with the training department to ensure submission requirements are up to date, effective, and in compliance
  • Reviews data to identify rule violation and decertification trends and provides recommendations for remedial action. Generates and submits annual reports required by regulation
  • Maintains certification(s), as required

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of relevant professional experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Detailed knowledge or willingness to learn federal certification requirements
  • 3 years of railroad or regulatory experience in field operations, testing, or training
  • Ability to travel required
  • Demonstrated analytical skills, excellent teamwork and communication skills
  • Employees must have the ability and willingness to support operations of critically important systems and/or processes 24 hours per day/7 days per week. On-call assignments may include after-hours, weekends and holidays

Medical Requirements:
CPKC is committed to the safety and health of its employees and the general public. This position is a safety critical all new hires will be required to complete a pre-employment medical that includes a physical, vision, hearing, alcohol, and drug audit assessments. Qualification drug test(s) are also required.


Background Investigation:

The successful candidate will need to successfully complete the following clearances:


  • Criminal history check
  • Reference check
  • Last 3 years of driving history
  • Last 7 years of employment history; includes military service
  • Social Security number verification

Management Conductor Program:

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
