Job Description: This Specialist, Mechanical Engineering role will work over a broad range of disciplines including product design, analysis, manufacturing, and testing as they relate to state-of-the-art radar systems. This role is responsible for mechanical design tasks such as technology research, specification generation, interface definition, component selection, component 3D CAD modeling, data collection, and product documentation and will support the Mission Systems business area.
The Advanced Systems & Technologies (AS&T) division is a part of L3Harris' Agile Development Group and specializes in developing disruptive, next-generation technologies for advanced Unmanned Air Systems (UAS / UAV), advanced radar systems, next-generation weapon systems, and other RF sensor technologies. Essential Functions: Primary engineering responsibility for mechanical design tasks such as requirements analysis, specification generation, interface definition, component selection, component 3D CAD modeling, data collection, Product documentation, and product validation. Design mechanical aspects of circuit card assemblies Design thermal solutions for high-power electronics.
Schedule, cost, and technical responsibility at the component or subsystem level Prototype and Test component parts and assemblies Develop test plans and procedures for mechanical subsystems. Perform test and evaluation of component parts and systems. Participate in peer reviews, PDRs, CDRs, and other required design reviews.
Participate in interdisciplinary design teams and reviews. Adhere to company processes for product development, configuration management, purchasing, etc. Direct Designers/ Technicians as part of a design team.
Perform trade studies to determine optimal designs. Conceptualize new designs to solve mechanical demands. Expertise in engineering documentation/ Drawings IAW ANSI Y14.100 Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Active Secret Clearance Required. Bachelor's Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience.
In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience. Experience in packaging and cooling of high-power electronics. Competency in the use of ANSI Y14.5 dimensioning and tolerancing.
Working knowledge of common manufacturing processes. Experienced in the use of 3D CAD modeling; particularly Solidworks and/or CREO. Physical Requirements: ability to lift to 10 lbs.
Up to 10% travel may be required. Preferred Additional Skills: Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related Mechanical Engineering experience. Experience in design for and testing to military environments (i.e., temperature, vibration, shock, etc.)
