    Description:
    The Special Recreation Aide is responsible for assisting with the supervision and safety of children, teens, and adults with various types of disabilities. Provides individualized support and assistance with the organization and implementation of activities to enable successful recreation participation.
    Qualifications:

    • Must be 16 years of age or older
    • Must be highly motivated and enthusiastic in order to provide quality experiences for our participants

    • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check and drug/alcohol screen
    • CPR and First Aid certification required
    • NCI (Non-violent Crisis Intervention) certification required

    Essential Functions:

    • Assist with supervision and safety of individuals with disabilities including implementing behavior management plans and NCI (Non-violent Crisis Intervention) techniques and First Aid, once certified
    • Demonstrate good safety awareness and judgment
    • Maintain effective and open communication with Program Coordinator/leader and other staff with information concerning participants’ needs, progress, or situations related to programming
    • Provide individualized support as needed to ensure participants’ successful participation in activities
    • Provide personal assistance to individuals with disabilities as needed, including assistance with transferring, eating, toileting, etc.
    • Must be able to follow directions, policies, and procedures
    • Enthusiastically implement and participate in activities
    • Maintain a professional attitude with participants, families, other staff, and community members
    • Attend mandatory trainings

    Marginal Functions:

    • Complete availability forms, documentation, and other materials as needed, in a timely manner
    • Maintain own schedule and submit electronic timesheets in a timely manner, as guided by the City payroll schedule
    • Lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying items weighing 20-50 pounds with mechanical assistance or team lift
    • Maintain program facilities in a neat and orderly manner
    • Gather, load, transport and set up equipment
    • Perform other duties as assigned by Program Coordinator/leader

    Rate:
    Starting at $16.75/hour

    Schedule:
    This is a seasonal position that includes a varying number of consecutive weeks (typically 8-10/season) during the fall, winter, spring, and/or summer. A predetermined schedule based on staff availability and interest will be provided in the form of a seasonal assignment prior to the season beginning. Total hours per season varies based on assignment.

    Supervision:
    This position receives supervision support from the Special Recreation Program Coordinator, Inclusion Coordinator, and/or the Disability Rights and Advocacy Manager
    Selection Procedure:
