Job Summary:
The Special Education Teacher must be knowledgeable of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), and be able to apply best practices to ensure learning is taking place. Applicants must be able to demonstrate knowledge of current educational and instructional theories, methodologies, techniques, and principles, as well as knowledge of State, Local, and Federal laws and regulations affecting the lives and education of students, providing learning activities and experiences designed for multi-levels and multi-ages, applying differentiation within the assigned classroom.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Instructional Strategies
- Implement various teaching methods to promote learning and provide individualized instruction to children with learning disabilities and/or special needs in grades K-6.
- Collaborate with content area teachers to modify curriculum and provide accommodations in order to meet the specifications of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
- Develop IEPs and complete paper work for Admission, Review and Dismissal (ARD) meetings.
- Monitor and record student progress toward annual goals as outlined in IEPs.
- Community and Competition
- Use creative strategies that help students analyze and improve study methods and habits;
- Present a positive role model for students that supports the mission of the school;
- Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the Campus Director.
- Communication
- Establish and maintain open communication with parents, students, principal, teachers and support staff;
- Establish and maintain an on-going professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
- Other
- Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
- Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings, and serve on staff committees as required.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of content areas assigned
- Must be able to participate in special programs and /or events.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Must be able to pass a background and fingerprint check. (There will be an associated fingerprint fee pending offer of employment)
Education and Experience:
- Valid Texas teaching certificate in the subject and level of assignment. Individuals in core academic subject areas must meet the highly qualified teacher requirements as per the No Child Left Behind Act.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university and valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsement for subject and level assigned, or
- 3 - 5 years of demonstrated classroom experience as an Educational Aide working with students with learning disabilities and/or special needs, with at least 75 college credits completed toward degree completion in the field of Education.
Physical Requirements:
- Maintain emotional control under stress; frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing.
- Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
Classification: Exempt, Part-time
Days: Monday - Friday
Normal Weekday Hours: 8:00 am - 1:00 pm Monday - Friday
Compensation: $25,523.40Annual
