SUMMARY:
The Special Education Teacher will be responsible for instructing and assisting students in making progress on their IEPs through skill development. The teacher will be expected to monitor Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and provide support to students in a small-group class that support learners with a range of cognitive, behavioral, communication, personal safety, and medical needs. The candidate should possess strong classroom management skills and the ability to differentiate and modify lesson plans to meet individual student needs. A willingness to collaborate and communicate with other teachers, related service providers, teaching assistants, and families is paramount for this position.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises classrooms, students, and multiple instructional assistants
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of a Bachelor of Arts degree from a four-year college or university.
Experience teaching students with a variety of diagnoses, including but not limited to Autism, Intellectual Disability, Multiple Disabilities, and Speech-Language Impairment.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Required:

• Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with appropriate endorsements
• License registered with Lake County ROE 34

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The District 113 LBS's responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Frequently communicating with teaching assistants and delegating tasks in the classroom to ensure all student needs are met
• Supervising students on community trips to promote learning with an emphasis on student safety ? Assisting with student toileting and/or other medical needs as appropriate
• Planning a scaffolded, differentiated, or modified curriculum that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students and is aligned with established core targets
• Utilizing a variety of instructional modalities and technology to promote engagement and student understanding
• Developing expectations for classroom behavior and maintaining routines through a Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS)-based model
• Taking all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
• Maintaining accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations
• Striving to maintain and improve professional competence through professional development opportunities and/or peer mentorship
• Attending staff meetings and professional development sessions as required
• The ability to build and maintain relationships with colleagues that supports a cooperative work environment
• The ability to handle and maintain the confidentiality of employee, student, and other sensitive District information
• Taking attendance, completing grade and progress reports, and other reports as required by the district and/or the State of Illinois
• Performing other duties as assigned by the building administrator

CASE MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:
The District 113 case manager's responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Communicating praise, concerns, and progress with parents, general education and Special Education staff when related to the disability
• Maintaining and updating IEP paperwork
• Gathering and monitoring data on student progress
• Developing and implementing interventions to address student needs
• Developing and implementing tools to assess student progress toward IEP goals ? Coordinating scheduling of related services
• Problem solving scheduling when TAs are out to ensure student needs are met
• Ensuring transportation needs are met and problem solve/ communicate when changes are required ? Collaborating with sponsors/ coaches in order to facilitate student participation
• Assisting parents in managing student behavior at home (develop and monitor behavior plans that connect shool to home; provide strategies that work well at school to try at home; meet with students regarding the importance of appropriate behvior at home as well as school
• Oversee the Transition Plan (including but not limited to, helping parents navigate post-secondary services/ resources; informing parents of Choices/ Options Fairs and other informational meetings for post-secondary services)

LEARNING STRATEGIES/ METHODS RESPONSIBILITIES:
The District 113 learning strategies/ methods teacher's responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Providing IEP and eligibility awareness to students
• Implementing and monitoring specially designed instruction for achieving IEP goals and skill progress ? Implementing and developing the transition plan
• Facilitating data collection on IEP goals and problem-solving when the student is not making progress ? Coordinating with related services staff
• Facilitating/ scaffolding instruction for self-advocacy, accessing resources, communication, and problem-solving
• Modeling everything (i.e. self-monitoring, organization, awareness, school resources, reflection) ? Identifying accommodations that are utilized

CO-TEACHING RESPONSIBILITIES:
The District 113 co-teacher's responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Collaborating with the general Education Teacher during common planning or agreed upon times ? Creating and delivering curriculum (should be engaging, rigorous, differentiated, and modified when needed)
• Developing a system of assessment that communicates progress to students, families, and other case managers
• Delivering in-class accommodations/ modifications related to the disability
• Monitor, assess, and update goals (class specific)
• Determine best model for co-teaching lessons
• Participating in course teams
• Identifying roles and responsibilities with co-teacher (i.e. classroom management, parent communication, grading, instruction, accommodations, planning, common plan time, IEP meetings)
