Job Summary
The SETSS Teacher (Special Education Teacher Support Services) play a critical role in commitment to providing inclusive and individualized educational support to students with diverse learning needs. As a SETSS Teacher, you will work closely with students, general education teachers, parents and other support staff to facilitate the academic success and social-emotional growth of students with disabilities. You will create and implement tailored instruction and support strategies to ensure that all students have equal access to the curriculum and reach their fullest potential.
Key Responsibilities:
Individualized Instruction: Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) in collaboration with all related staff and the Committee on Special Education (CSE), tailored to the unique needs of each student.
Assessment and Progress Monitoring: Conduct ongoing assessments to determine students’ strengths and areas for improvement. Use data to track student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
Collaboration: Collaborate with general education teachers, Special Education support staff and other professionals to create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment.
Instructional Support: Employ evidence-based teaching strategies and accommodations to adapt curriculum materials and methods to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
Parent-Teacher Communication: Maintain open and proactive communication with parents and guardians regarding students’ progress, IEP goals and strategies for success.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field (Master’s degree preferred)
Appropriate state teaching certification in Special Education
Knowledge of Special Education law and regulations
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Patience, empathy and a genuine commitment to supporting students with disabilities
Ability to adapt instruction to meet diverse learning needs
Experience working in an inclusive classroom setting is a plus.
Physical Requirement
Ability to stand, sit and move around the classroom.
Ability to lift and carry classroom materials as needed.
