Normal Work Schedule (Other):: Work week will be 43 hours, Monday - Friday, and subject to emergency call 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Job Responsibilities
The State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is searching to fill a Special Agent position in our Investigative Services - Pee Dee Region. The ideal candidate must have a bachelor's degree, integrity, and a strong desire for public service.
General Responsibility
Under general supervision, serve as a Special Agent in SLED's Investigative Services - Pee Dee Regional Office. Participate in the detection of crime and enforcement of criminal laws. Plans and conduct complete investigations and administrative cases, or conduct portions of investigations. Perform tasks supporting local law enforcement in assigned counties.
Specific Duties
  • Conduct investigations: Initiate cases and effectively obtain material facts, supporting information, and evidence related to the violations of state and/or federal law. Conduct thorough interviews of suspects/witnesses/victims to crimes or relevant matters. Effectively manage complex criminal investigations and plans supporting enforcement activity to further the investigation.
  • Report Information: Consult with supervisor concerning new investigations and significant events related to on-going active investigations. Prepare accurate, thorough, complete, and grammatically correct reports of investigations, reports of interviews, statements, affidavits, and/or other legal documents. Present investigative findings to the court through testimony, as required. Accurately reports statistical information as requested by the supervisor.
  • Perform Administrative Tasks: Prepare and submit SLED daily and enters working time into SCEIS in required time period. Ensure case files are up to date and accurate. Close case files after ensuring all required documentation has been completed.
  • Support Local Law Enforcement: Initiate, develop, and maintain contact with other law enforcement agencies. Provide assistance with other investigations when requested.
  • Support Program Areas: Perform assigned tasks in support of the SLED Pee Dee Regional Office of Investigative Services. Participate in SLED mandatory training and other optional training opportunities that are made available. Maintain SLED issued equipment. Assist other SLED Agents when needed.

Minimum and Additional Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college/university.
  • Candidate must be currently certified as a Class I law enforcement officer from the SC Criminal Justice Academy or hold a certification from a federal law enforcement training academy.
  • Must have four (4) years law enforcement experience.
  • Knowledge of law enforcement investigative techniques, interviewing methods, inspections, compliance review strategies, and overall case management procedures.
  • Subject to overnight travel, 24-hours emergency call.

Preferred Qualifications
Three (3) years of investigative experience at a public law enforcement agency is preferred.
