SpanishFull-Time Teaching Position

The College Preparatory School, an independent high school in Oakland, California, seeks a full-time Spanish teacher beginning in January of 2024.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor or graduate degree in Spanish or a related field. A teaching credential is not required.
  • Native or near-native fluency in the language
  • Experience teaching Spanish at either the high school or college level
  • Commitment to working with high school students outside of the classroom as part of our advising system and other programs
  • Demonstrated cultural competence
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Patience, flexibility, and a good sense of humor

A full-time Teaching Position involves teaching 4 sections of about 16 students. Applicants must be willing and able to teach across the Spanish curriculum (levels I through IV) and to introduce students to the cultures of Latin America and Spain. The goals of the Spanish program are to create full-immersion classrooms, to build towards teaching advanced listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills, and to promote global perspectives among students. Our Spanish and other World Language teachers work closely with one another, honing and reshaping curriculum, assessments, and assignments.

College Prep students are engaged and motivated learners who help create a kind, intellectual and equitable community.

Candidates should be eager to spend additional time getting to know and help students outside of the classroom. College Prep teachers also take a share of other departmental, committee, and general school responsibilities, mainly during the 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. school day. Faculty at College Prep are compensated according to a step scale based on years of experience ranging from $72,500 for teachers with no relevant experience to $143,700 for teachers with 44 years of prior experience.
