Position Summary

The Kripalu Healing Arts (Spa) Director directs the Healing Arts Department in delivering high-quality treatments and consultations that are in alignment with the Kripalu approach to wellness and lifestyle. These modalities include traditional bodywork as well as Positional Therapy, Energywork, Ayurvedic treatments and consultations, facials, and Metaphysical services. This position is responsible for the development of the Healing Arts team, both bodyworkers and administrative staff, to achieve departmental objectives, including achievement of business/mission metrics, high levels of guest satisfaction, and employee morale.

Accountabilities

  • Serves as a key member of the Leadership Team.
  • Provides strong leadership with dedication to training, mentoring, and motivating a large team including supervisor, coordinator, therapists, and reception staff.
  • Communicates strategic vision and direction in a way that produces measurable results.
  • Develops policies and procedures in collaboration with senior leadership that support the goals of the department to generate sales, operate efficiently, provide excellent customer service, and build a positive work environment.
  • Analyzes the business and provides senior management with business plans and/or proposals that respond to business opportunities and risks.
  • Strategizes the growth of the department, bringing concepts to senior management, following through with actions.
  • Develops and manages a budget of $3 million in revenue while maintaining profitability, optimizing expenses, and maintaining efficiency.
  • Maintains strong relationships with all product and supply vendors, simplifying systems where possible and maximizing resources.
  • Identifies and collaborates with strategic partners to expand Kripalu’s presence and impact in the world.
  • Develops and implements exceptional, consistent, and reliable guest service standards, including setting and achieving measurable service benchmarks across department.
  • Analyzes customer feedback and provides strategic direction to continuously improve overall guest experience.
  • Work with Kripalu directors on educating other departments about the programs, including front desk, reservations, healing arts and programming.
  • Monitor industry trends and ensure Healing Arts training, methodology, and offered services remains aligned with strategic vision while also evolving and deepening.
  • Ensures compliance with professional standards and state and local licensing and regulations as they affect the area within the organization.
  • Maintains and develops external relationships with local training organizations.
  • Provides leadership and mentoring to staff to support their successful development, execution of objectives, and development of harmonious team.
  • Maintains and develops a culture of best practices in staff health and safety in conjunction with Safety Committee.
  • Responsible for the safety of the guests and staff in case of emergency.
  • Maintains best practices for record retention and privacy in relation to medical information, minor information, and consultation information, as related to Privacy Laws and Regulations.

Essential skills and experience

  • BA and/or degree in Spa Management or related industry
  • 5 plus years managing a spa, healing arts center, or related hospitality area.
  • Proven ability to lead to a large group of both professional and guest services staff.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite  
  • Knowledge and experience of property management software
  • Weekend, evening, and holiday availability  

Preferred experience

  • Knowledge of yoga and Ayurveda a plus
