Purpose
The Cook position is responsible for cooking raw ingredients that lead to producing finished soups according to recipes, guidelines, and quality standards. Works at the kettles; sets up at start of shift; follows cooking schedule; adds ingredients and cooks according to instructions on check off; records temperatures and other information on Process Document; cleans kettles and area between products.
Responsibilities
- Follow recipes accurately and notify your lead or supervisor if any change to the recipe occurs (even if you believe it to be minor) because attention to detail is imperative.
- Checks schedule for order of products that day.
- Set up area by sanitizing kettles, utensils, and area.
- Stage perishable goods so they do not sit out in harmful temperatures.
- Uses lift, master water control, or hand dumps ingredients into the kettle per Process Document instructions.
- Ensure consistency, every batch must look and taste the same as well as maintain the correct viscosity.
- Follows cooking instructions listed on the Process Document regarding agitation and temperature limits. Records requested information on the sheet.
- Operates Mixer to make slurries or roux when called for by Process Documents.
- HACCP guidelines must be followed at all times and paperwork must be complete. Any equipment or procedural deviation must be documented with initials and communicated to QA immediately.
- Use lock out, tag out when putting hands into moving arms of kettles.
- Clean and sanitize kettles and area between batches.
- Other duties as directed by your Lead/Supervisor.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum one year of factory related experience.
- Must have a good command of the English language, both written and spoken.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple written and oral instructions.
- Able to do simple math including calculating percentages and simple addition.
