Job description

Brandeis University is delighted to announce a position of Sound and Image Technology Specialist. Under the direction of the Associate Director for Sound & Image Media Studios in the Brandeis Library, this position will contribute to a robust instruction and support program for campus community members pursuing academic and extracurricular projects in video production, digital photography, audio production, graphic design, and animation. Working within a suite of lab and studio spaces connected by a complex media technology infrastructure, the successful candidate will help maintain production equipment and editing systems, grow services and outreach/instructional programs, coach student staff, and coordinate appointments and training. This position will also collaborate with other Library units to serve as the overall webmaster for the Library.

The hiring range for this position is $65,200 - $72,100.
This is a union position. Employees working in this position are covered by the collective bargaining agreement between the University and Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 888. Provisions related to wages, benefits, and other terms of employment are contained in the agreement.
Primary Areas of Responsibilities:

  • Support the daily operations of Sound and Image Media Studios (SIMS) by working directly with patrons and by coordinating engagements between patrons and student staff. Provide expert guidance and assistance through consultation and coaching. Monitor and fulfill requests for reservations and appointments while facilitating training across a broad range of creative audio-visual equipment and software. Exercise judgment by providing solutions at appropriate levels of skill for a variety of project goals and learning outcomes. Ensure continuity and quality of service by monitoring student staff schedule and evaluating specializations and competencies.
  • Maintain a complex technology infrastructure across multiple lab and studio spaces. Configure, demo, and troubleshoot recording, editing, and digital media management workflows involving microphones, audio interfaces, cameras, lenses, lighting equipment, computers, servers, and software. Keep equipment and spaces organized, functional, and accessible. Work to optimize user experience of systems including digital audio workstations, Adobe Creative Cloud applications, and associated creative tools. Keep user and staff documentation current and comprehensive.
  • Contribute to an instructional program that involves a broad range of teaching engagements for academic courses with learning goals around media literacy and production. Teach from existing lesson plans and develop new ones in consultation with faculty from a variety of disciplines. Teach extracurricular workshops for students and group training sessions for other community members. Promote the SIMS instructional program and affiliated services as part of the Library's overall service portfolio.
  • Manage and develop the Brandeis Library Services website and collaborate with library colleagues to implement strategic improvements to the website.
  • Work on special projects and initiatives as deemed necessary by the Associate Director of Sound & Image Media Studios. Help assess & fulfill needs for media production support in areas related to teaching, learning, and creative work across campus. Research and develop media production methods and workflows; evaluate and master technologies, equipment, and systems as they evolve.

Job Requirements:
B.A./B.F.A./B.S. degree required
1-3 years of related work experience
Additional Experience:
Experience with audio/video production & knowledge of a broad range of equipment.
Proficiency with digital media editing software, preferably Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, & affiliated apps in the Creative Cloud, as well as Logic Pro or a similar digital audio workstation.
Experience configuring & troubleshooting computers & software. Experience teaching or tutoring. Experience with web content management systems. Strong service ethic and passion for working in a learning environment.
Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
