ABOUT THIS POSITION
The Public Works Department strives to improve the quality of life in Phoenix through the efficient delivery of outstanding Solid Waste, fleet, facilities, and energy management services.
Solid Waste Diversion and Disposal Division at the North Gateway Transfer Station located near the I-17 and Dixileta exit in North Phoenix. In the Division, the position provides manual and semiskilled labor to increase diversion of green organics from the transfer station and direct customers to unloading areas. The position is also responsible for performing landscape maintenance, operating a variety of equipment, including a one-ton dump truck, and delivering seamless in-person customer service to transfer station and diversion area customers including routing and directing traffic.
Solid Waste Diversion and Disposal Division at the 27th Avenue Transfer Station located near Lower Buckeye Road and 27th Avenue. In the Division, the position provides manual and semiskilled labor to increase diversion of green organics from the transfer station to the Temporary Mulching Area and new Compost Facility. The position is also responsible for disassembling refuse containers, performing landscape maintenance, operating a variety of equipment, including a one-ton pickup van, and delivering seamless in-person customer service to transfer station and diversion area customers including routing and directing traffic.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
- Basic knowledge of operating mobile computers and electronic devices.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form.
SALARY
Pay Range: $18.16 to $28.17 per hour.
Hiring Range: $18.16 to $22.08 per hour.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Six months of heavy manual work and some experience which provides skill in the use of tools such as air compressors, air wrenches, impact wrenches, electric drills and other hand tools.
- These positions require the ability to read and write.
- Perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the outdoor elements.
- Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Experience with:
- Communication systems, i.e., working with a two-way radio.
- Team leadership / supervising others.
- Providing quality customer service to the public by telephone, email, or in person.
