Job summary
The purpose of the position of the Meade County SW&R Laborer is to perform skilled work in the recycle center under the supervision of the Recycle/Litter Abatement Manager and the Coordinator.
Summary of essential job functions
The Meade County Recycle Laborer will:
· Open gates at starting time as well as close and lock them at closing time.
· Supervise litter crew and any other volunteer workers assigned to the recycle center.
· Answer phone calls, wait on customers, write receipts and take payments.
· Be able to follow oral and written instructions.
· Prepare and process paperwork for roll offs that are being delivered or picked up.
· Assist in maintaining charge account records.
· Close out register daily, balance paperwork with money and turn both in to Solid Waste office.
· Attend safety meetings and follow all safety rules.
· Report any and all accidents or injuries to the Solid Waste office immediately.
· Keep work area and grounds clean. Make sure grass is cut and trimmed. Keep office, bathroom and kitchen areas clean.
· Help unload trucks and ensure that trailers and truck beds are swept before leaving yard. Make sure pits are kept cleaned out.
· Help bale recycle items. Make sure that boxes at recycle windows are changed when necessary.
· Pick up cardboard weekly (or more often if needed) from local customers.
· Help keep empty roll off containers staged at pit area and customer boxes as needed.
· Operate (or learn to operate) backhoe, skid steer, compactor, forklift, scales, balers and shredder. Keep equipment and vehicles clean and in good operating condition. Report any equipment problems to Recycle/Litter Abatement Manager or Coordinator.
· Responsible for making sure all items i.e. metal, trash, e-scrap, etc. are placed in proper containers.
· Perform any other duties as assigned by the Recycle Manager or Coordinator.
Minimum requirements
· High School diploma or equivalent.
· Must pass a drug test and background check.
· Must have a valid driver’s license.
· Needs to have mechanical aptitude, manual dexterity and enough physical strength to handle tasks under varying work conditions. Must also have basic math aptitude.
· Display mature judgment, courtesy and tact in dealing with the public, elected officials and government employees and serve the county’s best interest. Must remain respectful to co-workers and supervisor.

Must be able to work on Saturday's in exchange for one day off during the regular work week.
