Job Summary
Benton County is seeking a Solid Waste Program Coordinator.
Job Summary
The Solid Waste coordinator is responsible for program development and implementation, including sustainable materials management planning. This position leads the County in program quality improvement, and in implementing applicable state, federal, and local ordinances in a forward-looking and sustainability-focused manner. Works collaboratively with and staffs citizen advisory committees. Acts as public contact for Solid Waste management program. Coordinates with Oregon's Department of Environmental Quality, Oregon State University, local and regional advocacy organizations, and County Departments, including: Environmental Health, Natural Areas, Parks & Events, County Health, Benton County Sheriff's Office, Public Works, Community Development, and local and regional communities. The position also coordinates with state and federal agencies, other counties' Solid Waste Programs, and a wide range of interested parties using tools of collaborative governance to leverage solutions that meet the needs of Benton County, the mid-Willamette Valley and western Oregon.

    • $61,448 - $82,932
    • This position is eligible for up to two salary raises within your first year. An Increase may be given at the end of the 6-month probationary period, depending on starting salary, and at the 1-year anniversary, as long as your performance is in good standing! Annual performance-based increases are given until the maximum of the salary range is reached.

    Minimum Qualifications
    The following minimum qualifications are required for this position:
    • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, business, physical sciences, engineering, sustainability, or other discipline related to Solid Waste management.
    • Minimum 3 years of experience in Solid Waste management or a related field such as Subtitle D landfills, composting, materials recovery systems, reload facilities, transfer stations, waste-to-energy facilities, recycling centers, community and organizational sustainability, Solid Waste franchise agreements, contracts, or permitting.

    An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
    Special Requirements
    • Membership in the Oregon Chapter of the Solid Waste Association of North America or be able to become a member within 6 months of hire.
    • Membership in the Oregon Refuse & Recycling Association or be able to become a member within 6 months of hire.
    • Membership in the Association of Oregon Recyclers or be able to become a member within 6 months of hire.
    • Successfully pass a background check.
    • Valid Oregon Driver's License, or ability to obtain.
    Ideal Candidate
    • Experience designing and implementing programs or systems to improve sustainability and reduce material waste.
    • Experience working with interdisciplinary and interagency teams to solve complex public policy challenges.
    • Human relations skills to explain complex technical information and code requirements to knowledgeable and lay persons.
    • Proven soft skills to collaboratively resolve conflict.
    • Proficiency with geographic information systems and other data tracking systems.
