Solar Project Manager

About Urban Energy

Urban Energy is a growing small business dedicated to accelerating clean distributed energy adoption among NYC property owners. We specialize in the design and installation of urban community solar PV systems for commercial and multifamily rooftops. We are a growing business with a passion for innovation and our community.

About the Role

In this Solar Project Manager Role, you'll work directly under the COO to support our Operations, Construction, and Engineering. The ideal candidate should possess experience in managing complex projects. They should be detail-oriented, accountable, and a self-starter with a passion for processes and organization. Additionally, they should have an interest in being involved in a variety of different stages of operations, project management, and construction. Every day will look different and will provide a broad and dynamic experience typical of a startup environment.

The candidate will report to our office in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, as we have a mandated hybrid policy where employees must be in the office 20 hours a week.

Objectives
  • The Project Manager will be responsible for executing solar installation projects while maintaining budget and schedule.
  • The position will manage and direct project management activities, act as liaison between client, stakeholders, engineers, contractors, construction managers and other consultants during the execution phase of a project. This position will also be responsible for the coordination during the execution phase and close out of projects. The candidate must deliver positive results and assume accountability for delivering projects on an approved schedule and on budget to maintain value and protect profitability.
Responsibilities
  • Drive execution of the projects, keeping them on schedule and on budget while maintaining relationships with clients, stakeholders, and vendors.
  • Maintain top-quality customer service with clients and all stakeholders.
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, and other information utilizing Office 365 systems/PowerBI.
  • Evaluate construction and engineering progress to manage project risks.
  • Present project progress, key findings, and recommendations in a weekly report to the Executive team
  • Manage weekly calls with clients to discuss project progress.
  • Engage and coordinate internal resources, engineers, and construction managers in the preparation and execution of project plans through completion.
  • Review and take ownership of project schedules for construction and delivery.
  • Coordinate, manage, and conduct project meetings and provide weekly progress reports to clients.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders, providing recommendations on how to enhance and improve building and/or site configuration.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of experience or equivalent.
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Ability to travel to construction sites as needed
  • Strong leadership, diplomatic and motivational skills including the ability to lead up, across and down the organization.
  • Experience leading, motivating and managing various project and program team sizes, including internal and external resources, while holding team accountable for performance.
  • Successfully led and managed complex portfolios ($100K to $5mm)
  • Demonstrated success in the Project Management function
  • Proven success managing subcontractors and developing and executing innovative project changes.
  • Success in developing cost to complete, costing and pricing Change Orders, and maximizing profits.
  • Demonstrated ability to read, understand and interpret contract and insurance documents and forms, and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Background in project start-up meetings, subcontractor and vendor buyouts, owner estimates, sub / vendor requisitions and cost to completes.
  • Experience in successfully leading projects and programs on-time, on schedule, and within-budget close.
  • Entrepreneurial with a well-rounded business perspective.
  • Excellent teamwork, communication, and people skills are a must.
  • Has a solid time management system and demonstrates excellent organizational skills.
  • Working Knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Project, SharePoint, Power BI with experience presenting to Senior Leadership.
  • Demonstrated decisiveness in resolving project issues, making decisions, and identifying priorities.
  • Construction Solar experience (Bonus, Not mandatory)
  • PM certification (PMP, CAPM etc., Bonus, Not mandatory)
Compensation and Benefits
  • Benefits include 18 days paid vacation, 5 paid sick days, 9 paid holidays, 3 floating holidays, medical, dental, and vision
  • Salary Range 80-85k
