Job description

Summary
The Software Programmer will provide platforms and services for integrative data mining of renal disease data sets, including molecular, clinical, and imaging data. This position will work with the existing software team to design, develop, and maintain our portfolio of software and infrastructure to support analysis and interpretation of biological data including data integration, annotation, statistical analysis, and visualization.

Responsibilities*
  • Focused on software engineering, software maintenance, infrastructure design, and some DevOps.
  • Be a full-stack developer with a knack for doing the simplest things that could possibly work.
  • Successful candidate will have an interest in biomedical research and precision medicine.
  • Enhance, develop, and maintain web-based visualization and interactive tools that help researchers understand complex research results and execute analyses.
  • Develop intuitive web applications with accessible user interfaces.
  • Demonstrated experience and enthusiasm for software engineering best practices.
  • Incorporate user and collaborator feedback into software.
  • Excitement for test-driven development, pair programming, and iterative and incremental delivery.
  • Adapt to changing research needs and be willing to learn new technologies and frameworks.
  • Uses active listening and frequent communication with team members and collaborators, resulting in understanding improvement needs, thereby creating buy-in for enhancements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications*
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 2+ years of combined professional and academic experience in systems analysis or programming.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the development of web applications.
  • Proficiency in handling extensive datasets and intricate data structures.
  • Practical knowledge of Bash or comparable scripting languages such as Perl, Python, or Ruby.
  • Dedication to the creation and maintenance of high-quality software and processes.
  • Strong capabilities in both written and oral communication.
  • A keen interest in and familiarity with Agile methodologies for software development.

Desired Qualifications*
  • Proficiency in the use of the React framework.
  • Familiarity with Java or other Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) languages.
  • Practical experience in the use of SQL for database management.
  • Experience in leveraging cloud computing environments such as AWS, Azure, or Google App Engine, including containerization.
  • Past experience with data visualization libraries and platforms.
  • Expertise in managing and interpreting high-throughput bioinformatics datasets.

Additional Information
This is a full-time onsite or hybrid position (minimum of 2-3 days per week onsite and as required for position success.)
Background Screening
