The Software Engineer will support package and letter sortation systems software and related technologies for the US Postal Service. The US Postal Service has begun a 10-year technology infrastructure renovation across the country known as the Delivery for America plan. You will directly contribute to the evolution of improved technologies to the national infrastructure of the US Postal Service. Experience in programming robotics or optics software is a plus. The primary work location is in Merrifield, VA, where the Engineering Headquarters for the US Postal Service is located. After a few weeks of on-the-job training, you may be able to telework from 2-3 days/week.
Responsibilities will be to write product requirements documents, implement and track development timelines, and negotiate feature sets with the development leads and product teams. Must be familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Works within an engineering environment with other software and mechanical engineers. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
Required Experience
- Requires at least 2 years of post-undergraduate degree software development or Software Engineering experience, preferably associated with equipment (robotics, optical character recognition, etc.).
Required Education
- Must have a bachelor's degree in Software Engineering or computer science.
Additional Requirements
- Experience with GitHub, ProofHub, Adobe Dreamweaver CC, LeanKit, Codenvy, Crimson Editor, Code Climate, Bitbucket, Telerik TeamPulse, or Axosoft a plus.
- Experience with CAD, Excel, and PowerPoint preferred.
- Candidate must be able to sit, stand and work at a computer for prolonged periods.
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours when needed.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check & drug test. Sensitive clearance may take 4-6 weeks to obtain. Can not start work until cleared. Reciprocity of DoD clearances may reduce wait times by 2-3 weeks.
