The Software Development Manager for our product development team is a people manager with a high level of functional expertise in Software Development disciplines including architecture, development and quality assurance. They are accountable for people, projects and processes within the product development team. They must be able to understand the strategic vision of the organization and make strong, tactical decisions in support of that vision. This individual is responsible for the day-to-day management of several product development functions.
Responsibilities:

• Individual reports directly to the Director/Senior Director of Product Development
• Directly reporting to this position may include Software Engineers, Architects, Usability Analysts, Automation Engineers
• People Management - interpersonal leadership, coaching, feedback, career development, performance assessments, objective setting, business goal alignment, hiring & disciplinary action as required
• Leadership - Communication within Product Development and peers across organization, conflict resolution, meeting management, change management
• Methodology - Enable quality-focused, predictable, and effective Software Development processes(Agile, SDLC, accountability)
• Project management - Accountable for deliverables, estimates, planning, follow up and tracking, metrics
• Effectively handle ambiguous tasks and assignments
• Functional Expertise - Contribute to individual area of expertise, project work, standards
• Plan - driver of short-term and long-term strategic planning, help shape the vision and direction of the products, and align them to overall strategic goals

Knowledge, Skills, Ability, Education & Experience:

• Bachelor’s/Master’s degree preferred in Computer Science, Engineering (or related field)
• 8+ years of relevant work experience
• 5+ years of proven leadership responsibility
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
• Ability to build and sustain trust through relationships with others
• Complete understanding of technical standards, principles, theories, and concepts in the field
• Knowledge of the industry the software products are being developed for
• Leadership in a team environment
• Ability to communicate product and engineering ideas to team/customer and partners
• Work on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors
• Demonstrate excellent judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions
• Ability to think outside of the box
• Ability to identify the best solution based on business value and direction
• Ability to work on problems of significant scope independently; Self-directed.
• Able to work independently or work and interact as part of a team
• Recognized as an expert and strives for excellence with the ability to mentor and coach other engineers to do the same
• Ability to lead meetings, clearly communicate technical approach, status, assess risk and mitigate

• Network with senior internal and external/partner personnel in own area of expertise
• Strong in program management execution, results driven, and ability to hold team accountable for end results setting appropriate milestones along the way to validate progress
• Strong leadership skills, leading by example, driving employee commitment through actions, empowering employees to reach their full potential
• Occasional travel may be required
