Software Development Intern

The Focus on the Family Internship Program provides valuable experience, professional and spiritual development, and lasting friendships for over 30 college upperclassmen each summer. Focus on the Family is a Christian non-profit media ministry that offers practical, everyday help to families at every age and stage of their journey. Focus on the Family's Digital Solutions team oversees Software Development and enterprise systems for the ministry. This includes maintaining the Adventures in Odyssey mobile application and website, Microservices (written in C#), and developing new features and solutions in Salesforce. As an intern on this team, you would be a part of maintaining and enhancing software and systems for internal clients and external constituents.
What a day in the life looks like:

• Enhance the Adventures in Odyssey website and/or mobile apps using Flutter
• Bring new ideas to the table for improvements to the Adventures in Odyssey app
• Work on projects and processes through an Agile© methodology
• Use and maintain automated tests to ensure quality coding
• Use and maintain CI/CD technology
• Attend and participate in Digital Solutions Daily Standup
• Collaborate with Digital Solutions team to serve constituents and internal stakeholders

Our goals are for you to:

• Learn how to work within Agile© processes and methodology
• Gain experience in mobile application development using Flutter
• Learn how to develop and use Github actions
• See how to recognize and use Design Patterns
• Learn how to use Rapid Prototyping as a communication tool
• Gain experience communicating with non-technical users

What makes you an ideal candidate for the Digital Solutions team:

• Computer Science, Computer Information Systems or similar major
• Experience working with a C-Based language such as Java, C#, Visual Basic or PHP
• Proficient with Source Control Systems (such as Git)
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Powerpoint, Excel)
• Teachable and excited to learn

Additional Notes:
This position is an intern position only. There will be no compensation or pay with this position, but a $2500 honorarium, workday lunch, and housing for out-of-town students will be provided.
Only upperclassmen college students need apply for the summer internship.
Transportation is the responsibility of the intern and may be a condition of acceptance.
