POSITION TITLE: Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) Senior

Supervised by: Director, Software Development

Supervises: None

FLSA Status: Full time, Exempt

Location: Remote

POSITION SUMMARY.

The Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) is a developer with the primary responsibility of writing frameworks and tools to test products using software automation. They contribute code to both testing and product repositories.

SDETs are able to understand software internals, debug code, automate repetitive tasks, and implement new tools and frameworks needed to streamline our quality process. Our SDETs work directly with all roles within our Development Department in order to understand project features, review technical designs, and implement automated test tools that help deliver quality features with efficiency.

They own the testing pyramid and testing strategies ensuring that appropriate unit, integration and ui test coverage enables Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery.

  1. Define User Stories aligned with the testing pyramid to ensure appropriate test coverage. (*)
  2. Recommending automated test strategies for new and existing products. (*)
  3. Develop automated tests to improve reliability and repeatability of frequently run software tests. (*)
  4. Plan and implement tests that prove the functional and non-functional requirements of the system. (*)
  5. Develop and implement unit, integration, and regression tests for software testing and product code. (*)
  6. Create and maintain Test environment for automated software testing. (*)
  7. Be able to understand the requirement and design test procedures and test cases for automated software testing. (*)
  8. Ensure that all automated testing related activities are carried out as per the standards defined by the company/department. (*)
  9. Track and document progress of automated testing results and code coverage in relation to the testing pyramid. (*)
  10. Develop/maintain standards and procedures to determine product quality and release readiness. (*)
  11. Drive innovation and streamline overall testing processes. (*)
  12. Troubleshoot automated test scripts to validate the technical and functional integrity of application components. (*)
  13. Primary code reviewer for other SDETs. (*)
  14. Primary developer for Framework level changes (*)
  15. Managing the quality of releases (*)

QUALIFICATIONS

Competencies:

  • Senior Developer Experience, Title of Senior Developer not Required
  • Ideally 3 - 5 years of experience automating testing for highly configurable web applications with significant size, scope and complexity in a software as a service environment having:
    • Senior Developer Experience – does not have to have job title, looking for coding experience
      • 3 – 5 years - c#/.net or 1 – 2 Years c#/.net if you have 3 – 5 years Java Development Experience
      • Familiarity with Unit and Integration Testing Experience using
        • C# ASP.NET Web Services or Java
        • JavaScript
        • XML / XSL
        • Complex T-SQL (CTE’s, LEFT OUTER JOINS, Indexes)
      • Testing Experience
        • Selenium webdriver > 3 Years
        • Experienced with running many tests concurrently and running automated regressions of several hundred tests
        • Experienced building and maintaining a testing framework in any technology

Required Education and Experience:

  • Associate’s Degree preferred; minimum of High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • 3 years Selenium webdriver
  • 3 - 5 years’ experience designing, developing, executing and evaluating automated ui tests built with Selenium, C# or Java

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

  • Experience with continuous integration, continuous deployments and release pipelines
  • Experience in full System Development Life Cycle
  • Experience with agile development a plus
  • QA certification a plus

Work Environment. This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. While performing some duties of this job, the employee is exposed to dust or other airborne particles. The noise level on the job site is typical of an office environment.

Physical Demands. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit for long periods of time, stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work. This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are typically Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the “core” work hours of 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and must work 40 hours each week to maintain full-time status. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel. No travel/Travel is required. [Revise as needed: Incumbent may occasionally experience some out-of-the-area and overnight travel.]
