Summary:
As a Software Developer Systems Software - Journeyman, you will provide software design, development, maintenance, accreditation, documentation, and delivery in support of organization requirements. The contractor shall coordinate technical software issues (licensing and upgrades) through the COR and Government IT personnel.
This position shall manage, operate, and maintain information technology (IT) for DAF RCO-FSU facilities at Kirtland AFB, Albuquerque, NM. The contractor shall also provide support for the DAF RCO-FSU Office located in Washington D.C. Normally, this support shall be provided remotely; however, occasionally travel to the Washington D.C. Office may be required. The contractor shall provide services that operate IAW standard Air Force and DoD IT environments. The contractor shall also maintain a specified level of system uptime and performance as defined in the PRS. The contractor shall implement critical thinking to balance cost and performance.
Essential Job Functions:
- Design, develop, and optimize system-level software components, including operating systems, device drivers, and system utilities.
- Implement software solutions that enhance the performance, scalability, and reliability of the organization's infrastructure.
- Scan contractor developed software, provide reports, and resolve discrepancies to ensure all delivered software is compliant with Intelligence Accreditation requirements and policies IAW AFI 17-101, Risk Management Framework (RMF) For Air Force Information Technology (IT).
- Develop new software and modify and maintain previously developed software. Software tools used to support software development and sustainment shall be kept current by incorporating updates/changes provided by the Software Developer or supplier. The Government maintains sole ownership of software data.
- Develop software ISW a formal set of syntax and language use standards except when waivered by the Government.
- Write and maintain code in low-level programming languages (e.g., C/C++) to interact directly with hardware and operating systems.
- Collaborate with hardware engineers to ensure seamless integration and optimal performance.
- Ensure system software is compatible across various platforms and architectures, addressing cross-platform compatibility issues when necessary.
Necessary Skills and Knowledge:
- Proficiency in low-level programming languages such as C and C++.
- Strong knowledge of operating systems, kernel development, and system architecture.
- Experience with debugging and performance optimization of Systems Software.
- Familiarity with hardware-software interactions and device drivers.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and debugging skills.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum three (3) years of experience in Systems Software development.
- An ACTIVE Top-Secret security clearance is required and will be verified by our FSO.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
