Provides education, support, and advocacy, and utilizes internal and external resources to facilitate informed decision-making and timely access to quality health and psychosocial care through all phases of the cancer continuum. Assists cancer patients to anticipate, identify and overcome barriers within the healthcare system. Works in conjunction with the RN Navigators to provide psychosocial support and care. Collaborates with other professional disciplines in the planning and provision of timely and efficient clinical services to cancer patients and their families.
Job Requirements:
Requires master's degree from an accredited school of social work. LMSW (Licensed Master Social Worker) license required. Oncology Social Work Certification (OSW-C) preferred.
Two years’ experience in oncology setting, inpatient, outpatient, or community setting preferred.
Job Knowledge:
Acquires and maintains broad knowledge of cancer-related resources and services. General knowledge of gynecological and/or breast cancers and treatments. Requires strong organizational, problem solving, decision making and critical thinking skills. Excellent verbal and communication skills. Knowledge of performance improvement processes. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills. Able to develop collaborative relationships. Ability to work in teams and autonomously. Computer skills required. Requires knowledge of crisis counseling and support group facilitation. Knowledge of insurance reimbursement and financial hardship resources as well as other community resources (including financial assistance programs) and the legal aspects of social service delivery. Knowledge of self-care strategies.
