These duties will be specifically geared to assisting in the gathering of certain personal data concerning clients of the Public Defender’s Office and shall be inclusive of but not limited to:
Conducting interviews with client and working with the client and the client’s family while the case is pending to ascertain any and all pertinent information relative to the client’s overall well-being and the development of defense strategies.
Obtain records regarding the client and the client’s family including but not limited to, records related to the case and to the client’s criminal history, birth and other medical records, school records, social service agency records, youth court and youth probation/ court services records, employment records, military records, adult education records, jail/ prison/ parole/ probation records, treatment records, and other documents and items illustrating the client’s life.
Identifying, locating, and interviewing potential witnesses.
Identifying factors in the client’s background that require expert evaluations.
Assisting in locating appropriate experts.
Providing background materials and information to these experts to enable them to perform competent and reliable evaluations.
Consulting with the attorney(s) regarding development of the theory of the case and strategy.
Preparing social history reports.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Applicants should possess a master’s in social work or related field or a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two years’ working experience in the field of social work, preferably with indigent clients.
