Description
The Human Services and Public Health (HSPH) Behavioral Health division is seeking two Social Work Unit Supervisors (SWUS) to provide on-site supervision at the Behavioral Health Center at 1800 Chicago. The Walk-in Center serves Hennepin County residents 18+ living with substance use disorders and/or mental health conditions. These positions provide leadership to a multidisciplinary team that provides walk-in services to adults in Hennepin County, centering needs related to mental health and substance use. The walk-in services are currently open Monday through Friday 9 a.m. - 9 p.m., with weekend expansion anticipated Spring 2024. Individuals interested in this position will need to be flexible to work weekends and evenings.
These supervisors work with a team of supervisors to provide on-site coverage, oversight of high-quality care, and team supervision. The Behavioral Health Center is a fast paced environment that requires situational awareness, active engagement, and problem solving in real-time. These positions will supervise staff including but not limited to:
  • Case Management Assistants
  • Case Managers/Social Workers/Senior Social Workers/Care Coordinators
  • Medical Team
  • Peer Support Specialists/Community Health Workers/Community Health Worker Senior
Effective December 31, 2023, there will be a general salary adjustment of 2.5% to the minimum and maximum of the range.

Location and hours:
These are on-site positions located at the Behavioral Health Center, 1800 Chicago Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55405. Candidates will work 40 hours a week between the hours of 8 a.m. - 10 p.m. and will be assigned a schedule once hired to include some evening and weekend hours. Candidates must be available to work various shifts. Based on current requirements hires must live in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.

In this position, you will:
  • Engage community partners and internal and external stakeholders through tours, presentations, workgroups, consultation, and debriefing.
  • Provide leadership and change management during expansion and iteration of services, including but not limited to participation in quality improvements, training, implementation, and monitoring.
  • Provide supervision and direction on work including weekly case consult, 1:1 supervision, work assignments, and oversight and monitoring of documentation.
  • Provide supervision to individual contributors including but not limited to hiring, onboarding, training, supervision, coaching, performance management and reviews, workforce development and enforcing labor agreements and personnel rules.
  • Provide team supervision including but not limited to establishing and maintaining team dynamics; upholding Hennepin County mission, vision and values; establishing agendas and facilitating meetings; writing policy and procedure; implementing or clarifying workflows; coordinating staff training; assigning work; and providing coverage for team as needed.
  • Provide leadership to further department-based strategies that align with county goals, mission and core values for diversity, equity & inclusion.
  • Provide oversight including but not limited to determining program goals and objectives, data collection and reporting, monitoring documentation, contributing to budgets or grant proposals, quality improvement and quality assurance activities, monitoring revenue, collaborating with community partners, and ensuring completion on tasks and workplans.
  • Engagement in disparity reduction and health equity work within Behavioral Health.
  • Implement pilot programs or new initiatives within Behavioral Health.
Need to have:
  • One of the following:
    • Six or more years of experience as a Senior/Psychiatric/Child Protection Social Worker in Hennepin County.
    • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, psychology, sociology, or human services, and 27 or more quarter credits of graduate work in areas such as Social Work methods, human growth and behavior, and/or principles of social welfare, and four or more years of supervised experience as a Social Worker.
    • Master's degree or higher in Social Work or closely related field (or licensed as a graduate Social Worker by the Minnesota Board of Social Work) and three or more years of experience as a Social Worker.
  • A valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a
  • Access to reliable transportation, and the ability and willingness to travel primarily within the metro area to possibly transport and/or meet with persons in their residential or community settings.
  • Nice to have:
    • Dually licensed as a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) and Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC), or any of the following:
      Current Licensed Graduate Social Worker (LSGW), Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC), Licensed Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (LAMFT), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and working towards becoming clinically licensed as a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC).
    • Experience:
      • Serving individuals with criminal justice involvement, or experience working with law enforcement or Sheriff's office.
      • Serving individuals living with mental health conditions.
      • Serving individuals living with substance use disorder.
      • Effectively interacting and engaging with diverse staff and clients including efforts towards disparity reduction.
      • Applying harm reduction principles in work or community settings.
      • Supervising or leading a team or project.
      • Educating about racial equity, gender equity, LGBTQIA equity, neurodiversity equity, and differing ability equity.
  • Knowledge of:
    • County and community resources for MH, SUD, social services, and basic needs.
    • Trauma-informed care principles.
    • Person-centered thinking.
    • Social determinants of health.
    • Diversity and inclusion strategies with a focus on disparities reduction.
  • Ability to:
    • Function well in unpredictable and challenging situations calling for sensitivity, flexibility, resourcefulness, and independent judgment.
    • Build effective partnerships with internal and external partners.
    • Effectively interact with people from diverse backgrounds.
    • Work well in a group setting, be accountable to the team.
